Medical Records Specialist
About this role
- Process, review, and maintain patient medical records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Respond to internal and external medical records requests, ensuring timely fulfillment in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Perform quality checks on documentation to identify discrepancies or missing information and follow up with appropriate stakeholders for resolution.
- Accurately enter and update patient information within electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Support audit readiness by organizing and maintaining records in accordance with established standards and retention policies.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure documentation supports continuity of care and authorization requirements.
- Track and monitor record requests, ensuring deadlines and service level expectations are met.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in all processes and communications.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in medical records management.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3+ years of experience in medical records, health information management, or a related healthcare administrative role
- Experience working with EMR systems and knowledge of HIPAA regulations required
