REPORTS TO:    Mechanical Engineering Manager

 

POSITION SUMMARY:   Directly responsible for overall view on mechanical engineering of assigned projects such as planning, project engineering, layouts, and cost control. Directs and reviews any design modification necessary to accomplish project equipment specifications within cost and schedule guidelines.  Assures total configuration control and traceability of all project hardware as well as complete maintainability of machine specifications.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:
1)    For new projects: generate and review project layout drawings, specifications and scope.
2)    Supports Project Management and Sales to assure customer and contract satisfaction while maintaining hardware integrity.
3)    Ensures total design traceability of standard equipment as well as specific project related modifications.
4)    Works closely with Project Management, Electrical Engineering and Process Engineering to coordinate interfaces for hardware compatibility.
5)    Specifies, recommends and approves buy-out items and auxiliary components.
6)    Recommends cost savings alternatives through value engineering techniques.
7)    Supports Purchasing and Quality Control in determining vendor hardware acceptability.
8)    Attends project meetings with customers, engineers, vendors and manufacturers as necessary.
9)    Approves/certifies vendor mechanical submittals and review design calculations as necessary.
10)    Initiates mechanical Bills of Materials through established policies and procedures for release to production.
11)    Ability to identify, evaluate and correct potential mechanical problems as well as communicate corrective actions to appropriate parties.
12)    Support aftermarket group for machine design retrofit projects and refurbishment: review project layout drawings, specifications and scope; create retrofit BoM kits; design items for retrofit, as required.

 

BASIC SKILLS:
1)    Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of five years related experience in project engineering and mechanical design.
2)    Ability to interpret and communicate technical needs at all levels of personnel and management.
3)    Experience with machine/fabrication/welding shop techniques and methods.
4)    Knowledge of cost estimating procedures.
5)    Capable of providing value engineering judgments.
6)    Knowledge of engineering Bills of Material structure.
7)    Strong emphasis on the ability to organize and manage.  Ability to multitask is a must.
8)    AutoCAD Mechanical and Microsoft Office software knowledge is required.
9)    Inventor/Vault/SAP is preferred.

 

RELATIONSHIP:
While reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, interfaces with Project Management, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, Purchasing, Production and Start Up/Service.  Should be able to demonstrate the ability to identify, evaluate and correct potential mechanical problems as well as communicate corrective actions to the appropriate parties.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS
1)     Ability to sit for extended periods using a desktop computer
2)    Willing to put in extra time when needed.
3)    Ability to be self-motivated as well as the ability to take directions well.
4)    Ability to work well in a team environment
5)    Ability to do simple structural stress analysis and calculation 
6)    Have a good understanding of drafting standards and weld symbols.
