Job Title:

Pay Details:

The annual base salary range for this position in California is $73,000 to $85,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.

The Broadcaster & Digital Content Producer for the San Diego Gulls is the captivating "on-air" voice for television and radio broadcasts of all pre-season, regular season, and playoff games. This dynamic role involves creatively engaging fans throughout the region by utilizing a range of broadcast and communications mediums while continuously seeking new and imaginative content opportunities for the team across various platforms, fostering relationships with Gulls players, coaches, executives, front office staff, and media members from different departments to support company-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide play-by-play duties for all Gulls television and radio broadcasts (pre-season, regular season, and postseason)

  • Deliver original and consistent style of all broadcasts (television and radio) and creative content while professionally promoting the Gulls

  • Host the team’s monthly magazine YouTube show

  • Develop a creative content plan, format, and logs for all broadcasts, including interviews, features, guests, and advertising inventory management

  • Serve as primary contact for the Gulls radio flagship network to provide on-air interviews and guest appearances and assist with creative promotional content

  • Provide voice-overs and narrate television, radio promotions, and partner needs

  • Develop visually creative content for commercials and promotional spots

  • Create, write, produce, shoot, and edit original video content to support Gulls hockey coverage, game day features, and community events, including interviews, player profiles, and special events

  • Produce, shoot, and edit unique video content for all pre-game and potential postgame shows to be broadcast on AHL streaming services

  • Create original and unique written features to actively promote and showcase the team, players, coaches, and executives

  • Create unique, inventive, and original weekly podcasts while serving as platform host

  • Assist as a contributor, host, and interviewer for various Gulls content across all digital and social media platforms

  • Actively seek and develop relationships across local television and radio affiliates to schedule appearances that promote the hockey club

  • Serve as a team and community ambassador, attend speaking and personal appearances, emcee events, participate in promotional activities and events and partner-related events

  • Edit sound clips for distribution to local radio and television affiliates

  • Assist the communications department with written content, publications, statistical research, editorial assistance, and publicity

  • Work with all internal departments to provide public relations/communications support for marketing, community relations, ticketing, and sales initiatives

  • Execute and follow all directives of both the AHL and Federal Communications regarding on-air content while exercising independent judgment and discretion

  • Compile creative highlight packages and sizzle reels for social media, publicity, marketing, partnership, in-game, and broadcast partners

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director, including other hosting, reporting, interviewing, and announcing duties

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcasting/Communication/Journalism preferred

  • 3-5 years of professional on-air hockey play-by-play experience

  • Television experience preferred

  • Understanding the sports marketplace and entertainment industry

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of the sport of hockey and the American Hockey League

  • Proficient in audio, video, and photo editing with Adobe Suite (experience using After Effects highly desirable) or similar program

  • Understanding and ability to work with confidential material and information

  • Strong written skills with strong attention to detail

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Able to develop strong working relationships with local television and radio affiliates

  • Able to develop various forms of creative and unique content across different platforms and mediums

  • Able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to all Gulls games and travel with the team year-round
