Primary Function

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting plant infrastructure and building systems to support safe, efficient automotive manufacturing operations. This role ensures all facility-related equipment and systems are operating reliably, in compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Duties And Responsibilities
•Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems including:

    • Electrical (lighting, panels, outlets, basic troubleshooting)
    • Painting and furniture assembly
    • HVAC systems (filters and belts)
    • Plumbing and sanitary systems
    • Compressed air systems (filters and oil changes)
    • Fire protection and eye wash station visual checks
  • Maintain plant structures, floors, doors, docks, roofs, and offices
  • Repair or replace damaged building components as required
  • Support maintenance of facility-related equipment such as:
    • Air handlers, and air make up units
    • Coolant filtration systems
    • Pumps, motors, and fans
  • Assist with installation and relocation of equipment and workstations
  • Coordinate with contractors for specialized repairs or large-scale projects
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks per CMMS work orders
  • Document all work completed, labor, parts used, and follow-up actions
  • Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements
  • Follow all plant safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions related to facilities
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, OSHA, and local building codes
  • Support emergency response activities (power outages, leaks, alarms)
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas
  • Respond promptly to facility-related maintenance calls
  • Support continuous improvement and operational reliability initiatives
  • Maintains or assists in maintaining grounds, minor building repairs / general upkeep, painting, perform all duties required to clean office area floors, washrooms, cafeteria, outdoor smoking area, washrooms in warehouse, etc.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification or vocational training preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing facility maintenance (automotive preferred).
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Electrical systems (basic to intermediate)
    • HVAC and plumbing systems
    • Mechanical repair and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced production environment.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on call as required
  • Automotive manufacturing plant
  • Exposure to noise, machinery, temperature variations, and industrial hazards
  • PPE required at all times on the production floor
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification (preferred but not required)
  • EPA HVAC certification (preferred but not required)
  • Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing facilities (preferred but not required)
  • Welding, fabrication, or carpentry experience (preferred but not required)
