The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
Position title: Storeroom Associate
Department: Central Stores
Reports to: Stores & Purchasing Manager
Employee status: Seasonal, hourly until December 31, 2026
Hours per week: Varies based on operational needs, approximately 8 to 12 hours per week (2-3 shifts)
Compensation: $19.25 per hour
This position is included under the MoveUP 378 Bargaining Unit. This position is in-person.
Position Purpose
The Storeroom Associate is responsible for daily operation in the storeroom. Under the guidance of the Stores & Purchasing Manager they ensure the proper receiving, checking, storing and distribution of all food and beverage related goods according to AMS standards and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensuring consistently high guest experience and product quality through proper receiving and storage procedures and timely deliveries according to AMS standards and procedures
- Expediting supplies and ensuring proper, complete deliveries
- Maintaining and utilizing all storeroom related equipment
- Maintaining and utilizing all computer hard- & software according to AMS guidelines
- Working with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
- Other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must have early morning availability (e.g.: 7:00 AM)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to multi task, good organizational skills
- Language: Required to speak, read and write English
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 22kgs (50 lbs)
- Ability to complete simple math conversions
- Optimum Control Inventory Software experience an asset
- Previous Food & Beverage experience an asset
- Food Safe level 1 an asset
