International Senior Tax Manager

The International Senior Tax Manager will be based in Hyderabad, India, and will be a senior member of Amgen’s international tax planning and controversy organization. The role will lead significant international tax planning and audit matters, supervise and develop a tax professional based in India, and serve as a senior tax adviser to Tax, Finance and business stakeholders. The individual will exercise substantial judgment in evaluating tax risks and opportunities, leading cross-functional projects and tax authority interactions, and coordinating internal subject matter experts and external advisors.

The successful candidate will combine strong international tax technical capabilities with demonstrated people leadership, sound business judgment and the ability to influence stakeholders across functions and geographies. The role requires the ability to manage multiple complex matters with limited supervision, communicate effectively with senior management, and translate technical tax considerations into practical business recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and prioritize a portfolio of international tax planning initiatives, including cross-border financing, intellectual property, legal entity restructuring and other business-driven projects, exercising judgment regarding technical positions, stakeholder engagement, resource allocation and escalation of material issues

  • Advise senior Tax, Finance and business leaders on international tax risks, opportunities and implementation considerations, translating complex technical issues into practical business recommendations

  • Serve as the senior tax representative for India business initiatives, partnering with Finance, Legal, Treasury, HR and other stakeholders on matters affecting Amgen’s operations in India

  • Lead the development and execution of audit defense strategies for significant international and cross-border tax matters, including evaluating tax authority positions and coordinating technical and factual responses

  • Oversee interactions with tax authorities and the preparation of information request responses and other submissions, ensuring that positions are technically sound, strategically aligned and delivered on schedule

  • Direct and coordinate the work of internal subject matter experts and external advisors across planning and controversy matters

  • Supervise, coach and develop a tax professional based in India, including setting priorities, reviewing work and providing technical and career guidance

  • Monitor significant international tax developments and assess their implications for Amgen’s existing structures, business activities and tax positions

  • Drive process improvements across international tax planning and controversy, including appropriate use of technology, data analytics and AI

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of international tax planning, cross-border tax controversy, transfer pricing and U.S. international tax principles

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex cross-border planning initiatives and developing and executing tax audit defense strategies

  • Knowledge of Indian corporate and international tax matters and significant OECD developments, including Pillar Two

  • Pharmaceutical or life sciences experience is preferred
