About this role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Workshop Technician to join our Fleet & Plant team based at our Preston Brook Depot in Runcorn.

The Workshop Technician plays an important role in carrying out inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair across a diverse fleet, ensuring the highest standards of safety, performance and reliability.
What you’ll do:
- Carry out inspection, diagnosis, servicing and repair of vehicles, trailers and plant equipment
- Work within the workshop or via Mobile Service Vehicles (MSVs) as required
- Perform maintenance in line with manufacturer guidelines and DVSA standards
- Complete all work to a minimum MOT standard
- Use diagnostic equipment to identify electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults
- Test functionality of vehicle systems and components
- Deliver cost-effective repairs within agreed budgets
- Complete job cards and maintenance records using tablets/PDA devices
- Conduct road tests to confirm safety and performance
- Provide roadside support and breakdown assistance when required
- Ensure safe use and maintenance of all tools and equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
- Adhere to all legal, compliance and Operator Licence requirements
- Follow Health & Safety procedures at all times
- Work collaboratively and share knowledge across the team

What You’ll Bring:
Essential:
- City & Guilds or NVQ in vehicle maintenance and repair
- Full UK driving license and HGV License
- Experience working with vehicles and/or plant equipment
- Strong fault diagnosis and repair capability
- Ability to follow procedures and use initiative
Skills & Competencies:
- Attention to detail and quality-focused approach
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Good organisation and time management
- Comfortable using digital systems for recording work
Desirable:
- Experience across a mixed fleet of vehicles and plant
- Knowledge of DVSA maintenance standards
- Experience in mobile or roadside repairs

Working Environment
This role is primarily workshop-based at Preston Brook, with occasional mobile or roadside work. You will operate in a safety-critical environment using specialist tools and diagnostic systems.
