Join Amey's dedicated Schools Account team and play a vital role in keeping educational environments safe, warm and operational for thousands of pupils, teachers and support staff across East Scotland. This field-based role primarily covers schools across Edinburgh, with occasional travel to a small number of sites in Clackmannanshire and the Scottish Borders.
With a portfolio of approximately 23 school sites, no two days are the same. From planned maintenance and fault finding to system upgrades and commissioning, you'll be trusted to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that directly support local communities.

The Role
As a Commercial Gas Engineer, you'll take ownership of the maintenance, servicing and repair of commercial heating and gas systems across our schools estate. You'll work independently across multiple sites while being supported by a collaborative and professional facilities team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance activities
- Diagnosing faults and repairing commercial gas and heating systems
- Servicing and inspecting commercial gas appliances
- Performing combustion analysis and flue gas integrity testing
- Maintaining boilers, pumps, ventilation systems and associated plant equipment
- Identifying and replacing life-expired assets
- Undertaking minor plumbing and mechanical works where required
- Supporting installations, upgrades, commissioning and project works
- Conducting inspections, risk assessments and statutory compliance checks
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with regulations
- Contributing to continuous improvement and reducing waste across the contract
This role will involve travelling between sites and may occasionally require working at height and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for an experienced engineer who takes pride in delivering excellent service and maintaining safe learning environments.
Essential requirements:
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Current Gas Safe Registration
- Relevant commercial gas qualifications
- Proven experience servicing and repairing commercial and industrial boilers and gas appliances
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Plumbing
- Legionella awareness and compliance knowledge
- Previous plumbing experience
- Experience working in education, healthcare or other large estates environments (desirable)
