About this role

 

As an Assembly Operator, you will have the opportunity to practise and expand your assembly skills within a growing S&P 500 company. Your main activities will be building mechanical and electrical assemblies to technical drawings, SOP’s and CMM’s, inspecting and testing products to ensure quality and accuracy, upgrading and repairing mechanical and/or electrical assemblies, and ensuring that equipment and tooling is properly maintained.

 

Responsibilities:

This role reports into The Production Manager and is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the protection and proper handling of personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws (e.g., GDPR) and internal policies.
  • Mechanical assembly work to drawing and/or CMMs. 
  • Electro/mechanical work, fan/motors and or heaters to drawing and/or CMMs. 
  • Use basic hand tools and measuring equipment. For example torque drivers, crimping tools, micrometers and verniers. 
  • Assembling and testing components and systems according to specifications, ensuring they meet quality standards and function properly.
  • Conducting tests and inspections to identify and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Adhering to all company manufacturing procedures. 
  • Completing all relevant documentation. 
  • Providing any information or help required to customers, suppliers and visitors from other companies within our group of companies who often tour the factory floors, and may well take the opportunity to examine parts, talk to staff or watch them carry out their work. To be able to communicate at all levels. 
  • Participating in any Continuous Improvement and 6S activities that affects the quality or output of the product. 
  • Using PPE (personal protective equipment) as required.
  • Carrying out all activities as defined above in a timely manner to ensure the company manufacturing targets are achieved. 
  • Taking on ad hoc duties, including, but not limited to, training colleagues in line with local skills matrix, department associated tasks and brief secondment to other departments. 
  • Cross training within the operation to increase capability and eliminate Single Points Of Failure
  • Undertaking role related training as identified by the Section Manager / Line Lead / Production Manager
  • Undertaking all other reasonable requests made by the Section Manager / Line Lead / Production Manager.
  • Providing support and flexibility where needed outside of the normal tasks of the job to protect customer satisfaction. 

 

Requirements:

The essential qualifications and experiences for the role are:  

  • Able to read and understand drawings and or CMMs and or SOP’s 
  • Able to work from SOPs in tandem with drawings 
  • Able to read, write and understand English. 
  • Knowledge of tools, i.e. circlip pliers, pliers, screwdrivers, tweezers, scrapers, Swiss files etc 
  • Soldering skills on small components 
  • Skills on the use of machines, lathes, drills etc 
  • Brazing desirable 
  • Previous experience in a production environment, assembly of wide range of electro/mechanical products 
  • Experience in assembling small components, i.e. model kits or other small component assembly
  • Ability to work in a team

Desirable experience for the role: 

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
