Brief Summary

Title: Product Manager

 

You'll Report to: Director of Product Management

 

The Product Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of all products, including manuals and forms as well as ensuring competitiveness, profitability, and compliance with state regulatory agencies.


What You’ll Do

  • Develop and manage Department of Insurance (DOI) filings for rates, rules, and forms, ensuring new and existing programs remain compliant and competitive across all applicable states.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new products, programs, and revisions to existing programs, including manuals, forms, rates, and rules.
  • Manage implementation of vendor products for new projects and programs.
  • Improve or create new tools as needed to support product development and analysis.
  • Support the development and career path of product analysts.
  • Analyze the existing portfolio by examining profitability, new business writings, products, competitive position, and capacity.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting to identify potentially unprofitable segments within the portfolio, including recommending and following through on agreed-upon actions.
  • Partner with Sales to analyze new business opportunities and identify target market segments to pursue, as well as segments to avoid.
  • Assess the cost of doing business across markets relative to related premiums; compare rates to the marketplace and provide recommendations to support competitiveness.
  • Analyze claims frequency and severity trends to inform product and pricing strategy.
  • Research and analyze company and external data sources to identify market and state trends, opportunities, and issues.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of reinsurance structures and how they affect product strategy; partner with the Reinsurance team, providing relevant data and context to support their placement and analysis efforts.
  • Partner with the Pricing team to provide analytical and market support for pricing decisions, incorporating actuarial rate indications, claims trends, underwriting initiatives, competitive intelligence, and the regulatory environment.
  • Partner with Marketing to support the development of policyholder and agency informational and communication materials.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support the development and implementation of new programs across departments.

What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference for degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, Statistics, Risk Management or similar degree.

 

Experience: 5-8 years of experience in Property and Casualty Insurance with 3-5 years of experience as a Product Manager with P&L responsibility. Preferred candidate will possess excellent computer skills working with queries, spreadsheets, data warehouse knowledge, etc.

 

Skills & Knowledge:

Exceptionally skilled in documentation, presentation, organization and leadership. Practiced research skills and strong organization capabilities.

Excellent Project Management skills.

Experience in communicating with varied organizational tiers and customer types.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

Presentation skills including delivery to varied organizational tiers.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, priority-shifting environment.

Advanced user – Microsoft Excel.

Strong computer spreadsheet and database skills: COGNOS and SQL, preferred. Demonstrated ability to learn additional software applications as required.

Ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner; gather information from multiple parties to ensure all perspectives are heard and considered; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas, thoughts and questions; express information and ideas effectively in settings including aligned or un-aligned feedback to obtain desired results.

Working Conditions: Normal business office environment.  Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone.  The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers. #LI-On-site
