About this role
- Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Agronomy in planning, coordinating, and executing daily golf course maintenance operations.
- Lead, train, mentor, and provide daily direction to the golf course maintenance team, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to American Golf quality standards.
- Assist with scheduling work assignments and monitoring crew productivity while maintaining accountability for daily course presentation.
- Provide hands-on training in golf course maintenance practices, equipment operation, irrigation, chemical safety, and company procedures.
- Maintain course accessibility, playability, and visual standards through mowing, edging, trimming, bunker maintenance, sod installation, planting, landscape care, and other agronomic practices.
- Assist with irrigation system operation, fertilization, pesticide applications, weed control, drainage, cultivation, and pest management in accordance with agronomic plans, label requirements, and safety regulations.
- Operate, inspect, maintain, and safely use golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, and other specialized equipment.
- Monitor course conditions and communicate turf, irrigation, equipment, or facility concerns to Agronomy leadership.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized maintenance facility while promoting safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support bilingual communication and training within the maintenance team as needed.
- May serve as acting supervisor during weekends or in the absence of the Superintendent.
- Implement and support all American Golf operational standards, safety initiatives, and agronomic programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two (2) years of golf course maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous leadership, crew lead, or Foreman experience preferred.
- Ability to operate golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and sprayers.
- State Pesticide Applicator License preferred, or the ability to obtain and maintain one as required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to train, coach, and motivate maintenance staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce; bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Technical aptitude and willingness to learn evolving equipment, irrigation systems, and agronomic practices.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong reliability, adaptability, and attention to detail.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Schedule varies based on business needs; evenings, weekends, and holidays are required.
- Role involves prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, climbing, kneeling, and use of hands and fingers.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work is performed outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, mechanical equipment, chemicals, fumes, electrical hazards, sharp objects, and moderate noise levels.
