And we’re looking for talent who feel the same: people who want to leave the planet better than they found it, those who don’t shy away from humanity’s challenges but are determined to help solve them.

AMD is powering the next generation of supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud, and AI. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or creating go-to-market plans, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward.

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a Field Applications Engineer to support AMD’s technical engagement with Google as a strategic hyperscale customer in the San Jose, California area. This role is intended for a mid‑level engineer (approximately 5 years of relevant experience) who is looking to grow in a customer‑facing technical role while developing deep expertise in AMD server platforms and architecture.

The FAE will work closely with senior FAEs, sales, and engineering teams to support pre‑sales and post‑sales technical activities, helping drive adoption of AMD datacenter technologies within Google’s infrastructure. The role spans system bring‑up, debugging, tools enablement, and performance characterization as programs move from early evaluation through development and into production.

This position emphasizes execution, technical depth, collaboration, and a willingness to learn.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support Google engineering teams with evaluation and deployment of AMD server platforms
  • Assist with platform bringup, validation, and debug across CPU, memory, PCIe/CXL, BIOS/UEFI, and Linux OS
  • Execute handson debugging and issue triage in collaboration with senior FAEs and AMD engineering teams
  • Support performance analysis, benchmarking, and workload characterization for compute, memory, and I/O
  • Contribute to customerfacing documentation, technical presentations, and test reports
  • Track technical issues, action items, and deliverables across customer engagements
  • Provide technical support to sales activities aligned with account objectives
  • Capture customer feedback and relay findings to AMD product, platform, and engineering teams

THE PERSON:

Does this sound like you? We'd love to talk!

  • Strong technical foundation with curiosity and desire to deepen system level expertise
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics effectively
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Able to manage multiple tasks while learning to prioritize with guidance from senior team members
  • Motivated to grow into a broader customer facing technical leadership role over time
  • Willing to travel up to 10% (mostly domestic)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong experience in systems engineering, hardware enablement, platform validation, or related technical roles
  • Foundational knowledge of server architectures, including CPUs, memory subsystems, and I/O
  • Working knowledge of Linuxbased operating systems and common debugging tools
  • Exposure to server bringup, validation, performance testing, or customer support environments
  • Experience collaborating with crossfunctional engineering teams

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Familiarity with datacenter platforms and hyperscale environments
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas:
    • Server benchmarking or performance analysis
    • PCIe, networking, or storage subsystems
    • BIOS/UEFI or platform firmware concepts
    • Linux-based operating systems
  • Customer facing experience (FAE, support engineer, solutions engineer, or similar)
  • Interest in cloud computing, large scale infrastructure, and hardware/software optimization
  • Hands-on experience with server system setup and configuration, including software and basic networking or storage concepts
  • Someone with the desire to continuously learn

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent (Computer Science or Electrical Engineering preferred)
