Software Development Manager, AWS AppSync
About this role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world leader in providing a highly available, durable, secure infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses around the world! The AppSync team owns and operates AWS AppSync, a fully managed, serverless service for building GraphQL and Pub/Sub APIs that securely connect applications to data and events at scale. Developers use AppSync to bring together data from sources like Amazon DynamoDB, AWS Lambda, and HTTP endpoints behind a single API endpoint, and to deliver real-time updates to connected clients through managed WebSocket subscriptions. These are core architectural components for many customers running on AWS.

We need technical, detail-oriented leaders who can build and grow organizations. You need to be able to grow leaders in your organization and lead a charter that grows as your organization grows. Our services operate at large scale, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key. You'll also need to be willing to share big ideas and execute to deliver the next big innovations at rapid pace. You'll collaborate with product managers, principal engineers, and teams throughout the company who are building the next big thing in cloud computing.
Key job responsibilities
- Hire and develop a strong and highly effective team
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
- Create roadmaps, project plans, and commitments for yourself and your team, then deliver consistently against those commitments
- Work closely with engineers to architect and develop the best technical design
- Engage with customers and partners
- Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance Basic Qualifications: - 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life & AD&D insurance), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and other resources to improve health and well-being.
