Overview

The Manager, Logistics Design & Cold Chain will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of global logistics design standards to help ensure product integrity across Alnylam’s end-to-end supply chain network. This role will contribute to packaging strategy, transportation lane design, temperature-controlled shipping requirements, and logistics risk mitigation in partnership with Global Logistics Operations, Quality, Validation, Clinical and Commercial Supply Chain, CMOs, 3PLs, and logistics service providers.

This position will serve as a key operational and technical partner responsible for translating logistics design requirements into practical, scalable processes that support consistent, compliant, and reliable product movement. The role will focus on execution of defined logistics design initiatives, lane assessments, packaging and transportation standards, and continuous improvement opportunities across cold chain and broader temperature-sensitive logistics operations.

This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

Logistics Design & Network Governance

  • Support the development and maintenance of global packaging and transportation strategies across various products, shipment types, and temperature profiles
  • Partner with Packaging Engineering, Validation, Quality, and Operations to define lane routing, carrier selection, pack-out requirements, and lane design inputs
  • Facilitate approval processes for packaging, validation and transportation configurations based on risk, performance and business needs
  • Identify and mitigate logistics risks (lane variability, disruptions, packaging performance) and define contingency strategies

Standards & Compliance

  • Establish global standards for temperature control and environmental conditions across all shipment profiles
  • Ensure alignment between packaging, validation, transportation strategy, and product requirements to maintain product integrity
  • Facilitate the creation of logistics design policies, standards, and SOPs, and lead their implementation across assigned products, lanes, and logistics partners
  • Ensure compliance with GDP/GMP and regulatory requirements in partnership with Quality & Validation
  • Partner with internal teams and external providers to implement standardized logistics design practices across assigned products, lanes, or initiatives

Risk Management 

  • Assess transportation and cold chain risks for assigned lanes, products, or logistics scenarios
  • Support the development of risk-based mitigation plans in partnership with Packaging Engineering, Validation, Quality, and Logistics Operations
  • Monitor lane and provider performance to identify potential product integrity or service reliability risks

Cross-Functional Execution & Partner Engagement

  • Serve as a logistics design and cold chain point of contact for assigned projects, lanes, or operational initiatives
  • Collaborate with CMOs, 3PLs, logistics service providers, Quality, Validation, Manufacturing, Clinical Supply, Commercial Supply, and Trade Compliance
  • Support cross-functional decision-making related to transportation design, packaging configuration, lane setup, and shipment readiness

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to standardize and optimize logistics strategies across the global network
  • Drive improvements in service reliability, cost efficiency, and product protection
  • Analyze shipment performance, lane data, excursion trends, and carrier performance to recommend improvements
  • Evaluate and implement innovative technologies and solutions that enhance logistics performance and visibility

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Life Sciences, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics, cold chain, supply chain operations, packaging, transportation, or regulated distribution environments
  • Experience supporting temperature-controlled logistics, packaging qualification, lane assessments, or product integrity programs
  • Strong knowledge of GDP/GMP transportation requirements and regulated supply chain operations
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Quality, Validation, Operations, and external partners
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.
  • Ability to travel up to 20-25%, globally

U.S. Pay Range

$122,400.00 - $165,000.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
