Overview:

The Director of Technical Operations and Quality (TOQ) Strategic Sourcing has responsibility for managing and optimizing external spending categories supporting the TOQ organization within the company. This role has responsibility for categories including emerging modalities, quality-related services, and new chemistry platforms, with a focus on building and scaling new supplier ecosystems and developing sourcing strategies that support programs from early development through commercialization and lifecycle management.

This role requires a dynamic, transformational, and hands-on leader with exceptional communications and influencing skills to elevate the level of sourcing value delivered to the organization. This role requires combining a high level of competency and experience in strategic sourcing with a solid understanding of the biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing process, particularly across new and evolving modalities.

This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute multi-year category strategies that deliver cost optimization, supplier performance, quality, innovation, supply resiliency, capacity expansion, scalability, and long-term value while supporting company diversity and sustainability goals.
  • Manage and implement a pipeline of sourcing initiatives supporting category strategies in close collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies that support programs across the product lifecycle, from early development and clinical supply through commercial manufacturing and lifecycle management.
  • Identify, qualify, and onboard new suppliers to support emerging modalities, new technologies, and evolving business and quality requirements.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing activities, including RFI/RFP development, commercial evaluation, negotiation, and contract execution.
  • Establish and elevate relationships with executives and key stakeholder leaders across R&D, CMC, and Quality to influence sourcing strategies, supplier selection decisions, commercialization plans, and long-term supply network strategies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead supplier relationship management programs with key suppliers, including governance, performance management, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support stakeholders in delivering departmental and corporate goals through effective sourcing execution and strategic partnership.
  • Deliver sourcing initiatives with cost savings and value creation in support of departmental and corporate objectives.
  • Proactively identify, report, and mitigate risks and establish and execute plans for business continuity, including supply continuity and quality-related risks.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the biopharmaceutical industry related to emerging modalities, manufacturing technologies, innovations, and sourcing strategies.
  • Build strong relationships with business partners including Financial Planning & Analysis, Finance Operations, Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, and other peers within the Global Strategic Sourcing organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in a technical discipline preferred.
  • Master’s degree (MBA, MS) desired.
  • Professional procurement certification (CPSM, MCIPS, etc.) desired.
  • 10+ years of experience in the sourcing/procurement profession.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing sourcing, including emerging modalities, quality-related services, or other complex technical categories.
  • A track record of delivering measurable value through savings, cost optimization, risk reduction, supplier performance improvements, and innovation.
  • Experience working in a highly entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and lean environment.
  • Experience identifying, qualifying, and developing supplier ecosystems to support emerging technologies, platforms, or manufacturing capabilities.
  • Advanced-level skills in the following key competencies: communications, project management, relationship management, influencing, negotiation, financial acumen, analytical skills, aptitude for technology, results focus, professionalism, and success in a matrixed environment.
  • Highly skilled in technical contract negotiation, including the ability to collaborate directly with Legal and business stakeholders in the creation, editing and implementation of contracts.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans relevant to complex sourcing categories.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and influencing skills. Ability to interact with individuals at all levels internally and externally.

U.S. Pay Range

$187,000.00 - $253,000.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
