Unit Overview
The Operating Room at GW Hospital includes 17 state-of-the-art surgical suites that support complex procedures including trauma, neuro, ortho, robotics, and open-heart surgeries. Our surgical technologists are critical team members who support efficiency, safety, and positive patient outcomes.


Position Summary
The OR Surgical Technologist prepares the operating room, assists with surgical procedures, and ensures proper handling and availability of instruments and equipment throughout the surgical process.

 

Main Tasks

  • Set up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile fields prior to procedures
  • Assist surgeons and RNs during surgical procedures by passing instruments and supplies
  • Maintain sterile technique and monitor operating room conditions
  • Perform instrument counts and ensure accurate documentation
  • Assist in the turnover and restocking of surgical suites
  • Collaborate with nursing and supply chain teams to ensure readiness
  • Support infection control practices and adherence to safety protocols

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or degree from an accredited nursing program or equivalent
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
