Job Purpose
The Site Inspector – Structures is responsible for carrying out inspections of structural works during the construction phase to ensure compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, contract requirements, applicable codes and quality standards. Working under the direction of the Senior Site Engineer – Structures, the Site Inspector monitors structural construction activities, identifies non-conforming work and assists in ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety and workmanship are achieved throughout the project lifecycle.
The role works closely with Contractors, Consultants and multidisciplinary site supervision teams to verify that all structural works are executed in accordance with approved engineering documentation and recognised industry best practices.
Qualification and Experience
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 5 years' post-graduate experience in structural site supervision.
Minimum 3 years' UAE/GCC experience on building construction projects.
Experience working within an engineering consultancy or multidisciplinary consultancy environment is preferred.
Good understanding of reinforced concrete, structural steel and foundation construction.
Familiarity with UAE Building Codes, structural standards and construction methodologies.
Experience on commercial, residential, hospitality, healthcare, mixed-use or high-rise developments.
Professional membership is desirable but not essential.
General Expectancy
Demonstrates sound technical knowledge of structural construction and inspection processes.
Works independently on routine structural inspections with minimal supervision.
Supports the Senior Site Engineer in delivering quality structural works.
Maintains accurate inspection records and technical documentation.
Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions with Clients, Contractors and project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Conduct daily inspections of structural works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, project specifications and contract requirements.
Inspect reinforced concrete works including foundations, pile caps, footings, retaining walls, columns, beams, slabs, staircases and suspended structures.
Inspect reinforcement installation prior to concrete placement, ensuring compliance with approved reinforcement drawings and detailing.
Witness concrete pours and verify compliance with approved method statements, specifications and quality requirements.
Monitor formwork installation, falsework and temporary works to ensure compliance with approved designs and safe construction practices.
Inspect structural steel fabrication, erection, bolted connections and welded connections in accordance with approved shop drawings and specifications.
Verify that construction materials delivered to site comply with approved material submittals and project specifications.
Review contractor quality control records, inspection requests and testing documentation.
Witness field testing activities including concrete slump tests, cube sampling, reinforcement inspections and other structural testing as required.
Identify construction defects, quality concerns and non-conforming work and report findings to the Senior Site Engineer.
Assist in preparing Site Observation Reports (SORs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Requests for Information (RFIs) and snag lists.
Monitor contractor corrective actions and verify satisfactory close-out of identified defects.
Coordinate inspections with Architectural, MEP and HSE site supervision teams to ensure multidisciplinary coordination.
Attend site inspections, coordination meetings and technical workshops when required.
Maintain accurate daily site diaries recording inspections, construction progress, testing activities and engineering observations.
Monitor contractor compliance with approved construction methodologies, quality procedures and project specifications.
Assist during project handover inspections and verification of completed structural works.
Report technical issues promptly to the Senior Site Engineer and support the resolution of construction-related challenges.
Maintain professional relationships with Clients, Contractors, Consultants and Authorities throughout project delivery.
