Job Purpose

The Senior Site Engineer – Structures is a senior member of the site supervision team responsible for overseeing all structural construction activities throughout the project lifecycle. The individual serves as the technical authority for structural works, ensuring construction is executed in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, contract requirements, applicable codes and industry best practices.

The role supports the Resident Engineer in the successful delivery of structural works by providing technical leadership, monitoring contractor performance, mentoring junior engineers and inspectors, and ensuring quality, safety and programme objectives are consistently achieved.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.

  • Minimum 10 years' post-graduate experience in structural site supervision.

  • Minimum 5 years' UAE/GCC experience on major building construction projects.

  • Experience working within an engineering consultancy or multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel and temporary works.

  • Thorough understanding of UAE Building Codes, structural design standards and construction practices.

  • Experience on commercial, residential, hospitality, healthcare, mixed-use and high-rise developments.

  • Professional registration or Chartered Engineer status is desirable.

General Expectancy

  • Extensive experience and high-level competencies within structural engineering site supervision.

  • Acts as the structural technical authority within the project team.

  • Supports the Resident Engineer in delivering project objectives.

  • Provides leadership, mentoring and technical coaching to Site Inspectors and junior engineers.

  • Demonstrates strong communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct site inspections of structural works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements and applicable standards.

  • Review structural shop drawings, reinforcement detailing, temporary works designs, method statements and material submittals.

  • Supervise reinforced concrete works including foundations, pile caps, retaining walls, slabs, columns, beams, shear walls and suspended structures.

  • Monitor structural steel fabrication, erection, bolted and welded connections for compliance with approved designs.

  • Verify reinforcement installation, concrete placement, curing procedures and structural workmanship.

  • Witness concrete pours, reinforcement inspections and structural testing activities.

  • Review concrete mix designs, material testing reports and laboratory results.

  • Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Site Observation Reports (SORs), Requests for Information (RFIs) and snag lists where required.

  • Monitor contractor quality control procedures and ensure timely close-out of corrective actions.

  • Coordinate structural interfaces with architectural, MEP and specialist engineering disciplines.

  • Review contractor BIM coordination and identify structural clashes or constructability issues.

  • Attend technical coordination meetings and provide structural engineering guidance.

  • Monitor contractor progress and identify programme risks affecting structural activities.

  • Maintain detailed daily records of inspections, construction activities and engineering decisions.

  • Support the Resident Engineer in resolving complex structural issues and evaluating contractor proposals.

  • Mentor Site Inspectors and junior engineers in structural inspection techniques and engineering best practice.

  • Promote continuous improvement in quality, safety and project delivery.
