As a Food Service Assistant, you'll keep our kitchen and cafeteria running smoothly assisting with food preparation, keeping food service areas clean and sanitized, and making sure supplies and equipment are always ready when they're needed.

What You'll Do

Support Food Preparation & Service

Assist in the preparation of food for meals washing, peeling, and coring fruits and vegetables as needed. Transfer food, supplies, and equipment between storage areas and the kitchen and/or cafeteria, and set up and take down tables and chairs. Provide superior customer service at all times.

Keep Everything Clean & Sanitized

Scrape, wash, and store dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. Clear, clean, and sanitize the kitchen, cafeteria, and food storage areas, and clean refrigerators, stoves, ovens, and other equipment. Sweep, mop, wax, and strip floors; clean and store trash containers; and degrease and sanitize vent screens and filters.

Manage Supplies & Storage

Ensure food, supplies, and equipment are available as needed and stored properly when not in use. Produce thorough, timely, and accurate work while maintaining strong attendance, accountability, and productivity standards.

Support Students & Collaborate

You may supervise Job Corps Work-Based Learning students assigned to the department. Provide high-quality supervision that positively influences student behavior with respect and accountability, mentor and model the Career Success Standards, communicate clearly, resolve problems with sound judgment, partner with staff across all departments, and accept direction from the Center Director, Duty Officer, or Shift Manager including other duties as assigned.

QualificationsWhat You'll Bring

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent
Ability to obtain local Food Handling / Health Certification
Ability to lift 40 pounds, or to assess a load and request assistance as needed

Preferred

Degree or certification from an accredited or relevant certified training program or school
Experience in a food services operation

Physical Requirements

This role involves sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping, and crouching. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to lift 40 pounds, or to assess a lift load and ask for necessary assistance.
