Job Summary

The Team Lead, Advisor Onboarding provides operational leadership for a portfolio of client transitions, helping advisors, teams, clients, and assets transition successfully while delivering a consistent, high-quality onboarding experience. This role combines hands-on transition execution with workflow coordination, coaching, training, escalation support, and process improvement. Working closely with department leadership and transition team members, the Team Lead promotes efficient execution, consistent service standards, and advisor readiness. This opportunity offers meaningful responsibility for improving the advisor experience, strengthening team capabilities, and supporting the continued growth and scalability of the client transitions function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day execution of a designated portfolio of client transitions, coordinating workloads and priorities to support timely, consistent outcomes.

  • Manage complex transition activities for acquisitions, advisor teams, and independent advisors, including custodial onboarding, account documentation, account transfers, and transition-readiness activities.

  • Monitor transition milestones, identify risks, remove operational roadblocks, and resolve issues that could affect timelines or advisor readiness.

  • Serve as the first point of escalation for complex transition matters and partner with leadership to address capacity, workflow, and execution challenges.

  • Guide and train incoming advisors and teams on company systems, operational workflows, policies, service expectations, and onboarding best practices.

  • Maintain onboarding documentation, training materials, standard operating procedures, and process resources that promote consistent execution.

  • Identify and recommend improvements that enhance the advisor experience, increase operational efficiency, reduce risk, and support organizational scalability.

  • Coach and support Associates and Senior Associates, including helping onboard and develop new team members and fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Model operational excellence and provide leadership with feedback on workflow challenges, capacity concerns, and team development opportunities.

Requirements

Required:

  • Five or more years of experience in client service, operations, or advisor onboarding within wealth management or financial services.

  • Experience managing complex onboarding scenarios or client transitions.

  • Ability to travel approximately two to three days per quarter and provide flexibility around transition timelines, including occasional extended hours or weekends as needed.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 3+ years in a client service facing role at Mariner

Skills

  • Sound judgment and the ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and make informed decisions.

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple workflows and identify risks proactively.

  • Clear communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with advisors, transition team members, and organizational leadership.

  • Coaching and leadership capabilities that build team knowledge, accountability, and continuous improvement.
