The Director, Technical Product Management is responsible for defining and executing the technical product strategy, roadmap, and investment priorities for a portfolio of digital products, platforms, and shared capabilities. This role serves as the primary product leader for their portfolio, translating enterprise priorities, member needs, market opportunities, and technology capabilities into scalable, reusable solutions that deliver value across the enterprise. The Director, Technical Product Management partners closely with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to drive technical product decisions and maximize the impact of digital investments. This role oversees portfolio strategy, roadmap execution, product performance, and the on-going evolution of capabilities that support multiple business needs while advancing AARP's digital strategy. 


Responsibilities

  • Defines and executes the technical product strategy and roadmap for a portfolio of digital products and capabilities, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities, member needs, and business objectives.
  • Owns the technical product portfolio prioritization and roadmap decisions, balancing member value, business needs, technical considerations, delivery capacity, and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensures technical products and capabilities within the portfolio deliver scalable, reusable solutions that support multiple business needs and enterprise objectives.
  • Promotes technical product innovation and roadmap evolution through member insights, behavioral analytics, product performance data, market trends, competitive intelligence, emerging technologies, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Drives adoption of modern technical product management practices, tools, and AI-enabled ways of working that improve collaboration, decision-making, and technical product effectiveness.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution, scalability, quality, and long-term sustainability of technical product investments.
  • Monitors portfolio performance and technical product health, recommending adjustments to strategy, priorities, roadmaps, and investments to ensure alignment with evolving member, business, and organizational needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in product management, digital product strategy, technology leadership, or related disciplines, including experience leading complex product portfolios.
  • Proven experience defining and executing product strategies, roadmaps, and investment priorities for enterprise-scale digital products, platforms, and shared capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success managing product portfolios, balancing customer needs, business objectives, technical constraints, delivery capacity, and long-term sustainability.
  • Strong expertise in leveraging customer insights, behavioral analytics, market research, competitive intelligence, and emerging technologies to drive product innovation and business value.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with senior business, technology, and operational stakeholders to deliver scalable, reusable enterprise solutions.
  • Deep understanding of modern product management methodologies, Agile practices, product performance measurement, and AI-enabled product management capabilities.
  • Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, communication, and executive stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to influence decisions and drive organizational change.

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
