Description:

Welder III: Performs a combination of Gas tungsten arc welding, GTAW and/or TIG welding on aircraft parts. Processes to fabricate or repair parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys. 

 



What you will be responsible for:

  • Determines and installs applicable welding materials based upon parent metal properties
  • Strikes (forms) arc to melt line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle
  • Performs minor repair operations, including helicoil installation, flushing, grit blasting, vapor degreasing, repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes, chipping off excess weld, slag and spatter, etc., utilizing basic machining equipment
  • Prepares broken parts for welding by prepping surfaces per standard practices
  • Preheats work piece with hand torch or heating furnace
  • Positions and clamps work piece together to assemble them in jig or fixture
  • Tacks assemblies together
  • Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications
  • Continuously pursues lean initiative toward process improvements
  • Maintains minimum 80%25 billable efficiency
