Position Summary

The School of Community Studies is seeking a passionate and experienced Instructor - Addiction Studies to join our team. If you are an experienced addiction services professional with a commitment to student success, inclusive education, and preparing the next generation of helping professionals, we invite you to join our collaborative and innovative learning community.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction within the Addiction Studies program while fostering an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment. Using evidence-informed and learner-centered teaching practices, you will deliver curriculum across multiple learning environments, including in-person, online, blended, and organizational settings.

In addition to teaching, you will contribute to curriculum development, assess student learning, support student success, and collaborate with colleagues and industry partners to ensure the program remains responsive to evolving practices within addiction and adjacent human services fields.

What You'll Be Doing:

Deliver Engaging and Relevant Instruction: Create meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for professional practice in addiction services. This includes planning and delivering courses, developing lesson plans, selecting instructional strategies that meet diverse learner needs, and evaluating student performance through ongoing assessment and constructive feedback. You will also contribute to curriculum enhancement by developing and updating course materials, manuals, and learning resources while maintaining accurate academic records.



Foster Student Success: Build positive relationships with students and provide guidance that supports their academic and professional growth. This includes monitoring student progress, addressing academic concerns, implementing approved accommodations, and connecting students with appropriate College supports when needed. You will also contribute to student success initiatives, including orientations, scholarships and bursary selection, and graduation activities.

Strengthen Community and Industry Partnerships: Maintain strong relationships with employers, community organizations, government agencies, and industry partners. You will stay informed of emerging trends and best practices in addiction services, participate in advisory committees, support articulation and transfer initiatives, and assist with recruitment and community engagement activities that enhance the visibility and impact of the program.

Contribute to Continuous Improvement: You will support the ongoing success of the program by:

  • Participating in curriculum development and program enhancement initiatives.
  • Completing required professional development and maintaining instructional excellence.
  • Contributing to applied research opportunities where appropriate.
  • Following College policies, procedures, and mandatory training requirements.
  • Supporting departmental initiatives and other responsibilities assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services field, social work or equivalent.
  • 4 years’ work experience in the field of addiction services or adjunct services (e.g., Mental Health, Housing, and crisis supports)
  • Knowledge in specific content areas such as trauma informed care, program planning and development, continuum of care for addiction support, prevention and early intervention, and recovery and relapse prevention planning
  • Police Information Check with vulnerable sector
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered



Preferred:

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Supervisory experience with practicum students and/or staff is preferred
  • Ability to work to full scope of practice
  • Adult Education teaching and learning experience is an asset
  • Curriculum development is an asset
  • Industry relationships is an asset
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to travel

This opening is a temporary (faculty) position with an end date of August 16, 2028. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check. If your education was received internationally, we will require you to provide an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire.
