Student Services

Under general direction of the Director of a campus, the Student Services Coordinator performs administrative duties related to the agency invoicing, financial aid, and veteran affairs programs of students within a campus of Southwest Truck Driver Training, Inc. (SWTDT). Key responsibilities include oversight, interviewing, explain all funding related options, as well as performing related work as required. Also, calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work harmoniously with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and students. This is a highly responsible position performing a wide variety of finance functions for SWTDT training services. An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for the leadership and the direction of major financing function, to include counseling and advisement of students. 

 

Key Duties: (Not inclusive and may vary with individual assignment.)

  1. Coordinating the activities of student’s funding options.
  2. Counsels students regarding loans, financing options, application processes and other funding related matters.
  3. Monitors and reviews funding packets to ensure that all deadlines and quality standards are met.
  4. Advises students regarding the scope and acceptance policies of funding institutions and veterans assistance programs.
  5. Monitors awards and students’ progress to ensure eligibility criteria are met.
  6. Agency invoicing.
  7. Interprets, implements and ensures the campus is in compliance with the state and federal agencies by maintain thorough, up-to-date knowledge of rules and regulations.
  8. Maintains appropriate records and files.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience:

 

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework related to the area of assignment and two years within or related to the area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

 

Licenses:

Person(s) hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses, professional registration, certification or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the office; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds. This position requires an employee or prospective employee to grant permission to do a background check.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Considerable knowledge of lending policies and procedures;
  • Considerable knowledge of veteran aid programs and policies;
  • Considerable knowledge of Agency programs and policies;
  • Considerable knowledge of computer and funding related software applications;
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with institutional partners;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally;
  • Understanding of credit agencies;
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, assemble and organize data, and to prepare reports;
  • Techniques for effectively representing SWTDT, including making effective public presentations and dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.

 Skilled in:

  • Applying theories, principles and procedures in the area of assignment;
  • Requires strong computer skills;
  • Excellent reading and writing skills;
  • Understanding the due diligence required in financial paperwork;
  • Managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines;
  • Making effective presentations to individuals;
  • A command on reasoning and understanding;
  • Preparing clear, concise and informative reports, correspondence and other written materials;
  • Command of the English language;
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers, supervisors, the general public, representatives of public and private organizations and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
