Responsibilities

Provide daily care and comfort to hospitalized animals while assisting veterinarians and technicians with treatments and diagnostics. Maintain a clean hospital environment and support client education in a specialty and emergency setting.

A high school diploma is required, and a veterinary assistant certificate or one year of hospital experience is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable working with animals of all sizes and be flexible to work evenings and weekends.

 At Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency (SAVSEC), patient care always comes first. We are currently seeking Patient Care Assistants who are eager to grow their skills, learn from experienced veterinary professionals, and play a hands-on role in caring for animals in a specialty and emergency setting. This position is ideal for enthusiastic, compassionate individuals who are curious, motivated, and excited to learn while making a real difference in patients’ lives. About the Role As a Patient Care Assistant, you’ll be an essential part of our medical team, supporting doctors and veterinary technicians while gaining valuable clinical experience. We believe education happens every day—through mentorship, teamwork, and hands-on patient care. Our primary goals are to ensure the comfort, medical care, and well-being of our patients while actively developing your skills in a supportive learning environment. Reports to the Veterinary Technician Manager and Assistant Veterinary Technician Manager. 

What You’ll Learn & Do

  • Provide daily care and comfort to hospitalized patients, prioritizing both physical and emotional well-being
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with treatments, diagnostics, and procedures
  • Learn and assist with safe handling and restraint of animals of all sizes and temperaments
  • Perform basic laboratory tasks and operate in-house lab equipment as training progresses
  • Support client education by promoting a compassionate, informed experience
  • Help maintain a clean, organized hospital environment

Requirements

 What We’re Looking For Education (Required):

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience (Preferred):

  • One (1) year of veterinary hospital experience
  • Veterinary Assistant Certificate

  • Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow professionally
  • Ability to stay calm, positive, and detail-oriented in stressful situations
