Senior Accountant – Private Company 

Location: Vancouver, BC 
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000

Smythe LLP is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing Private Company Group. This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA or CPA student who enjoys working directly with private company clients, developing technical expertise, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team. 

This role is based in our Vancouver office, with the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment following the completion of the probationary period. 

The Opportunity 

As a Senior Accountant, you will work closely with Managers, Senior Managers, Partners, and clients to deliver Assurance, Advisory, and Tax services to privately held businesses across a wide range of industries. You will take ownership of client engagements, develop meaningful client relationships, and play an important role in supporting and mentoring junior team members. 

This opportunity is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is looking to continue building technical expertise while making a meaningful impact on client success. 

In this role, you will: 

• Prepare and review compilation engagements, review engagements, and working paper files for private company clients 
• Prepare corporate, partnership returns, personal and trust income tax returns, and related tax compliance filings 
•  Assist clients with accounting, financial reporting, and business advisory matters 
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional client service 
•  Identify issues, provide practical solutions, and escalate complex matters to Managers and Partners as appropriate 
• Manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards 
• Mentor and support Accountants and junior team members through coaching, technical guidance, and file reviews 
• Collaborate with Managers and Partners to deliver high-quality client service and contribute to engagement success 
• Stay current with accounting standards, tax legislation, and industry developments 

What You Bring 

• CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) 
• Minimum 3–5 years of public practice experience, preferably serving private company clients 
• Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, financial statement preparation, and tax compliance 
• Experience preparing and reviewing compilations and review engagement files 
•  Proficiency preparing corporate and personal income tax returns 
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted client relationships 
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment 
• A collaborative, client-focused, and professional approach 

Additional Requirements 

• Ability to work from our Vancouver office, with a hybrid schedule available following probation 
• Availability to work additional hours during peak periods 
• Commitment to maintaining a consistent work schedule to support client and team needs
