Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) seeks a Mental Health Counselor to provide compassionate, student-centered mental health services that support the well-being and success of our diverse boarding and day school community. Working as part of an integrated Health Services team, the Mental Health Counselor provides individual and group counseling, collaborates closely with campus partners while providing outreach on campus, and helps foster a safe, healthy, and supportive environment where adolescents can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

A Day in the Life:
As a Mental Health Counselor at NMH, each day is centered on supporting the emotional well-being of adolescents in a vibrant residential school community. You will provide individual counseling and facilitate group therapy while partnering with students, families, faculty, and campus life professionals to ensure coordinated, holistic care. Working alongside Health Services colleagues, including the consulting psychiatrist and substance use consultant, you will help evaluate student needs, participate in multidisciplinary student support meetings, and contribute to proactive wellness initiatives across campus. This role also includes shared evening, overnight, and weekend on-call responsibilities, offering meaningful opportunities to support students when they need it most. Throughout your work, you will foster an inclusive, affirming environment that reflects NMH's commitment to belonging, equity, and student success.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Clinical Social Work or an advanced degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization or interest in adolescent mental health

• Current Massachusetts licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner

• Experience providing counseling services to adolescents, preferably in a school or educational setting

• Demonstrated commitment to supporting the growth, well-being, and learning of adolescents within a diverse community

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, administrators, and outside providers

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams

• Knowledge of current best practices, trends, and developments in adolescent mental health, student services, and wellness programming

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-biased practices

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound clinical judgment

• Ability to participate in rotating evening office hours and rotating overnight and weekend on-call responsibilities

This is an in office position.
