What's the role?
Are you ready to deliver accurate, timely, and compelling political coverage across News24.com.au and digital platforms? We are looking for a Political Reporter to contribute to News24's political coverage agenda by producing original reporting, breaking news updates, and digital content that informs audiences and holds power to account.
What's the role:
Produce accurate, original, and timely political news articles, updates, and analysis pieces across federal, state, and international politics.
Respond swiftly to breaking political developments, producing clean, publish-ready copy that meets deadlines without compromising factual accuracy.
Pursue original political stories with initiative, drawing on an actively developed network of political contacts, including politicians, press secretaries, advisers, and public servants.
Publish and format political content accurately across News24.com.au, applying correct tagging, categorization, and metadata in line with CMS and digital publishing workflows.
Manage multiple stories simultaneously in a fast-paced newsroom environment, prioritizing effectively and meeting tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Work cooperatively within the political team and across the broader newsroom, engaging constructively with other editorial verticals when political stories intersect with business, lifestyle, or breaking news coverage.
Who are you?
You hold solid and current knowledge of Australian federal and state politics, key political figures, parliamentary processes, and international political developments.
You produce accurate, clear, and timely political news copy across a range of formats and story types, with a strong instinct for news value and audience relevance.
You write concise, authoritative, and well-structured political copy across articles, headlines, and analysis pieces that meet News24's editorial standards.
You apply rigorous fact-checking, source verification, and legal compliance practices across all reporting and published content.
You are proficient in CMS platforms, metadata conventions, and digital publishing workflows across text and multimedia formats.
You perform reliably under pressure across fast-moving news cycles and breaking political events, maintaining accuracy and composure.
You actively build and maintain a growing network of political contacts that supports original, credible, and exclusive reporting.
