Longwood Gardens is seeking a full‑time Senior Electrician to lead advanced troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical systems across the entire site while ensuring full compliance with all safety standards and electrical regulations. This individual will serve as a collaborative team member and play a key role in training, mentoring, and supporting the Electrician team. Primary responsibilities include:
Providing hands-on advanced technical expertise for day-to-day operations and maintenance of electrical equipment and controls in a safe, cost-effective manner.
Assisting in the onboarding and training of new Electricians and providing guidance to other trades staff, as needed.
Taking the lead in planning, organizing, ordering materials, and prioritizing individual work orders.
Performing day-to-day electrical maintenance, system checks to diagnose problems with the operation, and repairs of various systems including site power distribution/generation, lighting, fountain, controls, and fire alarm systems at a mastery level with minimal supervision.
Performing administrative tasks related to electrical work orders through WebTMA.
Providing support for operational and emergency needs including snow removal.
Interfacing with management, engineers, and contractors throughout large capital projects.
Communicating with relevant Longwood Garden’s Stakeholders regarding the impacts of planned tasks, events, or equipment breakdowns.
Identifying areas in need of electrical improvement, creating job scopes, and obtaining material quotes.
Providing operational support for scheduled events and performances throughout the gardens and ensuring high-quality workmanship.
Providing an extraordinary experience when interacting with guests.
This position requires working a rotating on-call shift typically during the hours of 2PM-10:30PM.
The ideal candidate will possess:
A completed apprenticeship program or equivalent years of experience
10 years of demonstrated field experience.
Experience with Variable Frequency Drives, Lutron Lighting control systems, and BAS systems is a plus but not required.
A valid driver’s license.
Electrical license is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and OSHA 1910S Safety Standards, as well as ability to read P&ID, construction as-built drawings, and building prints is desired.
Ability to operate the tools of the trade and to work with other trades.
Familiarity with email, Microsoft Office products, and knowledge of Procore.
Proficiency in accessing, reading, and interpreting Longwood Garden’s site utility drawings.
Strong decision-making, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to climb and work at heights on ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to stand and sit for extended periods; enter confined spaces and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
