Responsibilities

Responsible for the troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of commercial trucks and equipment in both shop and field environments. Duties include performing preventative maintenance and maintaining strong communication with customers regarding estimates and updates.

Requirements

Requires a minimum of 2 years of diesel technician experience and a valid driver's license. Preferred qualifications include a CDL, ASE certifications, and specific experience with Cummins engines and Allison/Eaton transmissions.

Full job description

Purpose: Technicians are responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of the trucks or equipment in the shop or field environment, while maintaining an acceptable level of productivity and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes, but is not limited to,

  • Complete preventative maintenance on a commercial truck units ranging from medium/heavy duty pick-ups to class 8 vehicles.
  • Use OEM software, tools, and technologies to maintain, diagnose, and complete repairs to promptly address and resolve customer vehicle or equipment concerns.
  • Keep a clean and organized work truck and work area in line with Lilley and International standards.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including but not limited to the use of PPE
  • Mobile maintenance work on weekdays and some weekends
  • Maintain strong communication skills with customer including scheduling, creating rough estimates, and post work updates.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Minimum 2 years of diesel technician work is required
  • Mechanical knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulic systems and off-road equipment and components
  • Must have computer experience including Microsoft Office, email, and internet.
  • CDL B (Preferred)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Cummins engine experience (Preferred)
  • Allison & Eaton transmission experience (Preferred)

Education and/or Experience:

Vocational school is a benefit but not required. Manufacturer training and/or technical school plus solid professional diesel technician experience, typically 3-5 years, with developing diagnostic, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting skills are preferred.

  • Allison and Eaton transmission experience (preferred)
  • Cummins engine experience (preferred)
  • International Truck diagnostic and repair experience (preferred but we provide).

Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations:

  • CDL Class A or B (preferred)
  • Forklift Training Certification (preferred but we offer)
  • ASE Certifications (preferred)
  • International Certification (preferred but we offer)

Pay Structure : Hourly

Benefits:

  • Insurance benefits on the first of the month following 60 days
  • 401(k) with match after 1 year of employment
  • Paid training and certifications

Work Environment:

This position requires work in a variety of environments, which may include outdoor settings in all weather conditions, a service shop, a parts warehouse, and an office environment. The shop environment may involve exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, and potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as regular proximity to moving mechanical parts, including medium- and heavy-duty diesel and gasoline engines.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and computers. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are sufficient to perform detailed mechanical work safely.

To broaden our primary product offerings and meet the needs of a changing customer base, we added the #1 import truck brand, Isuzu, and a number of trailer lines. Today, two members of the Lilley family work in the dealership, representing 58 years of experience in the truck and farm equipment business. Laurence Lilley, Jr., and Jim Lilley fill the roles of President and Vice President for the company. Founder, Laurence Lilley, Sr., passed away in 2009 after 56 active years in the dealership leaving a legacy of innovative leadership and a deep appreciation for the customers and employees with whom he built relationships in those many decades of business.
