We are currently looking for an experienced Backflow Inspector / Service Technician holding an active TCEQ Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) license to join our growing field operations team.
Position Summary
As a Backflow Inspector / Service Technician, you will execute routine inspection, testing, diagnosis, and maintenance on a wide variety of backflow prevention assemblies (RPZs, Double Checks, Pressure Vacuum Breakers) across fire protection, domestic water, and irrigation lines. You will interact directly with property owners, facility managers, municipal water purveyors, and fire marshals—identifying deficiencies, generating accurate field compliance reports, and performing necessary repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine annual testing, inspection, and maintenance (ITM) on backflow prevention assemblies in accordance with TCEQ, local municipality, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) guidelines.
- Accurately tag backflow devices and complete required cross-connection control test reports following state and local water purveyor regulations.
- Diagnose backflow assembly failures, identify piping/valve deficiencies, and perform minor-to-major repairs or rebuilds using proper repair kits and components.
- Test backflow assemblies connected to commercial/residential domestic water lines, irrigation systems, and water-based fire protection systems (RP, RPDA, DC, DCDA, PVB, SVB).
- Complete digital inspection reports, test submissions, deficiency logs, and work orders accurately and promptly using company software.
- Communicate clearly with clients, site managers, city water inspectors, and local fire marshals regarding system compliance, required repairs, and code standards.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency repair calls as scheduled.
Required Qualifications
- License: Active TCEQ Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) License (REQUIRED).
- Experience: 2+ years of field experience testing, inspecting, and servicing backflow assemblies in commercial, multi-family, or industrial environments.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of TCEQ Chapter 290 rules, local plumbing/water purveyor backflow codes, and basic mechanical/plumbing system operations.
- Driver's License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (must be eligible for company vehicle insurance coverage).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work in vaults, pits, or elevated/tight spaces, lift up to 50–75 lbs, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Soft Skills: Professional demeanor, excellent verbal/written communication skills, and self-motivated with strong troubleshooting abilities.
Preferred Qualifications (Pluses)
- Active Texas State Fire Marshal RME-I (General Inspector) License (commands higher base pay rate).
- Fire Alarm, Extinguisher, or Journeyman/Master Plumbing Licenses.
- Experience operating pipe threaders, groovers, and basic plumbing hand tools for on-site pipe repair and valve replacement.
