JPL is seeking a Systems Administrator II to join the Enterprise IT Special Programs Office in support of JPL’s National Programs Office. As part of the IT Special Programs team, the candidate will provide daily operational support for highly available Windows and Linux servers, systems, and platforms to solve a wide array of customer needs and enable projects to perform and deliver on milestones and deadlines.
The Systems Administrator II is responsible for providing effective and friendly end-user support, installation and configuration, operation, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This individual also participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure, and ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values as well as sponsor and cybersecurity requirements. Candidates must be self-starters and able to work through complex problems to help customers continue to operate.
Responsibilities:
Provide primary technical support for end users operating information technology assets in the classified environment. Duties will include the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems, including:
Provide IT support in a heterogeneous environment (Windows and Linux) with a strong focus on problem resolution and customer service.
Coordinate and execute equipment delivery and installation (requires the ability to comfortably lift and carry up to 50 lbs.).
Possess strong, in-person customer service skills and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to resolve customer problems.
Demonstrate persistence in working Tier 1 customer service issues until resolved.
Work a help desk ticketing system, maintaining records, and regularly updating them.
Identify and report recurring incidents, recognizing patterns of problems, and escalating them for appropriate resolution.
Develop and maintain both user and technical manuals or guidelines.
Provide support in a secure, sensitive environment for both physical equipment and digital troubleshooting.
Assist in training or provide guidance and direction to staff.
Manage the IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems.
Provide support to IT systems, including day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for all client, server, storage, and network devices.
Configure and manage Windows and Linux operating systems; install and load operating system software; troubleshoot and maintain system integrity; configure network components; and implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
Ensure compliance with regulations and government sponsor security requirements through familiarity with IT security and related technologies.
Work on-site in a collaborative team environment with internal and external co-workers.
Required Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelor’s with 3 years of related experience of systems administration experience in mid-to-large environments, preferably within the U.S. military or intelligence community; or a master’s degree with 1 year of related experience.
A minimum of 1 year of systems administration experience in mid-to-large environments, preferably within the U.S. military or intelligence community.
Must have a current IAT Level II/III or IAM Level I/II/III 8140 Cyber Workforce Management Certification (e.g., Security+, CASP+, Cloud+, CISSP).
Candidate must have an active TS/SCI clearance. A current Counter-Intelligence (CI) Polygraph is highly desired, and candidates must be willing to submit to a CI Polygraph.
Candidates may be required to:
Respond to after-hours requests as required in a 24/7 environment.
Work non-standard hours, including early mornings, evenings, weeknights, or weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Supported Windows or Linux VMs, workstations, and servers.
Worked in heterogeneous computing environments.
Installed and configured Windows and Linux servers and workstations for both development and operational environments.
Worked with storage environments, large data storage pools, and related hardware.
Provide systems administration support to scientists, engineers, and/or military personnel.
Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities effectively.
Familiarity with environments employing configuration management and/or configuration control measures.
Ability to write detailed instructions and documentation regarding systems administration activities.
Supported computing or networking systems in challenging environments with high-stakes outcomes.
Supported senior officers in U.S. military services or Federal agencies.
