We're looking for an experienced operational leader to join our Sydney terminal as a casual Shift Manager, taking responsibility for the safe, efficient and productive operation of a 24/7 container terminal at Port Botany.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll lead frontline operations, make critical operational decisions in real time, and play a key role in driving safety, productivity and workforce performance.

About the Role

Reporting to the Stevedoring Manager, you'll be responsible for leading terminal operations across your shift, ensuring vessels, yard operations and landside activities are executed safely, efficiently and in line with customer expectations.

You'll oversee a large operational workforce and work closely with planners, shipping lines, customers and terminal stakeholders to deliver outstanding operational outcomes.

This role is a casual position, supporting our 24/7 operations. Shifts span across days, nights and weekends.

What You'll Be Doing:

Lead Safe Operations

· Champion a strong safety culture across the terminal

· Ensure compliance with WHS requirements, operating procedures and company standards

· Conduct operational safety leadership activities and incident response as required

· Drive accountability and visible safety leadership across all workgroups

Drive Productivity & Performance

· Coordinate terminal activities to maximise vessel, yard and landside productivity

· Make operational decisions balancing safety, customer service, efficiency and cost

· Monitor operational performance and implement corrective actions where required

· Identify opportunities to improve operational processes and performance

Lead People

· Provide leadership, coaching and direction to a large operational workforce

· Support workforce engagement, performance management and capability development

· Build strong working relationships across a unionised environment

· Promote a high-performance culture built on accountability and teamwork

Stakeholder Management

· Liaise with shipping lines, customers, planners and terminal stakeholders

· Respond to operational challenges and changing priorities in real time

· Ensure customer requirements are understood and effectively delivered

About You

We're looking for a leader who can remain calm under pressure, make sound operational decisions and bring people together to achieve results.

You'll ideally bring:

Essential

✔ Experience leading operational teams in a complex environment

✔ Background within one or more of the following industries:

· Stevedoring

· Transport & Logistics

· Rail

· Manufacturing

· Mining

· Defence

· Warehousing & Distribution

✔ Demonstrated experience managing safety, productivity and operational performance

✔ Strong leadership and people management capability

✔ Experience working within a unionised workforce environment

✔ Ability to make decisions quickly and confidently in a dynamic operational setting

✔ Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

✔ Sound computer and systems skills

Highly Regarded

· Container terminal or port operations experience

· Experience using terminal operating systems

· Experience with process improvement initiatives

· Understanding of Enterprise Agreements and industrial environments

· Experience leading 24/7 operations

· Ability to work 12hours shifts (Day and Night)
