Full job description

About FOUR20

Our mantra has always been the same — to approach cannabis in a socially responsible manner, ensuring we provide our customers with the best products, information and service to guide their cannabis experience. We're avid learners, caring community members and changemakers, committed to bringing on passionate people who lean into this industry with enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn — and we like to have a little fun along the way. These concepts are reinforced by our Core Values: Accountability, Community, Innovation and Service.

The Role

The Assistant District Manager helps lead a district — typically under 20 stores — with more hands-on guidance and support than a standalone District Manager role. You coach Store Managers, drive standards and results across your stores, and keep the district compliant and well-run. It's a role built for a strong multi-store leader growing into full district ownership. (Store counts are guidelines; exceptions apply based on market and store complexity.)

Reporting & Development

  • Reports to the Department Head.
  • Where a District Manager is in place, may be paired with them for mentorship and coaching.

Essential Functions

  • The basics, across the district: stores are open, people are safe, and compliance is upheld at all times
  • Support the District Manager in setting clear goals, plans and budget targets, and hold stores accountable to them
  • Coach and mentor Store Managers through regular store visits, feedback and development
  • Provide guidance on pricing, store layout and promotions to improve location performance
  • Drive the company mission, vision and values by leading through example
  • Help develop and standardize process and procedure across the district
  • Ensure development and training is in place for all personnel within the district
  • Maintain high-level knowledge of applicable Federal, Provincial and Municipal cannabis regulations; ensure stores stay compliant and flag changes
  • Act as a liaison between Hub / Head Office initiatives and store operations for seamless rollouts
  • Build and nurture engaged teams: support performance reviews, turnover metrics, teaching and training
  • Support succession planning so the team is ready to take on more when required
  • Support P&L management with strong cost control across the district
  • Ensure stores are prepared for government inspections (Compliance, OHS, Labour, etc.)
  • Support emergency response and inventory accountability across stores
  • Support new store openings and acquisitions as required

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of multi-unit or senior store leadership with responsibility for financial results
  • Strong coaching, communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Valid driver's licence and vehicle
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours including days, evenings and weekends
  • Willing to submit to and successfully obtain provincial cannabis certification / licensing

Provincial Licensing & Compliance

  • This role supervises and/or manages retail employees.
  • Ontario only: Must hold — or be able to obtain — the Retail Manager Licence (RML / CRML) required by the AGCO to supervise or manage cannabis retail employees, prior to performing any supervisory duties. (Non-negotiable)
  • Must be of legal age and remain compliant with all provincial licensing, legal and company regulations for working in the cannabis industry.

Work Environment

  • A blend of store locations and head office / home office
  • Hours vary; evening and weekend work as business needs require

Travel

  • Travel required within the district (the majority of the role)
  • Travel to head office as required; ability to work from home
