We are currently looking for a Corporate Tax Associate to join our corporate tax team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Tax you will be responsible for supporting Canadian tax compliance, reporting and planning procedures for a multi-level corporate structure. As a Corporate Tax Associate you will:
- Assist with preparing tax provision calculations for Canadian operations;
- Assist with preparing forecast, budget, and long-term plan tax estimates for Canadian operations;
- Initial review of monthly affiliate HST/GST returns;
- Assist with preparing and e-filing Canadian tax returns and verifying tax assessments;
- Assist with preparing responses to tax authority requests (as required);
- Liaise with internal business units and assist in providing tax support services;
- Perform basic tax research;
- Prepare portions of Emera consolidated annual tax note;
- Ensure internal controls over financial reporting for which you are responsible to support, perform, review or sign off are executed in accordance with the Company's SOX program. and
- Assist with the on-going maintenance of Canadian and International tax planning (as required).
What skills will make you successful?
You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field;
- A minimum of 1 year of financial accounting and/or tax experience;
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite of software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in particular);
- You have excellent communication skills and are detail-oriented;
- You have excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently under tight deadlines (when required);
- You are analytical and enjoy being challenged and solving problems;
- You are a collaborative and dependable team player who can effectively prioritize and manage multiple priorities
