Career Break
My latest full-time job was remote and after COVID I spent time in Greece to be closer to my aging parents & extended family. The company I was working for at the time discontinued our product and the teams were laid off as geopolitics worsened (Ukraine is close to Greece), and inflation hit the highest levels in the summer of 2022. I decided to stay in Greece longer to focus on cultivating my relationships and take some time for myself, while earning income from my personal projects. I returned to California and the Bay Area in 2024 for good and started my job search as I settled in. I plan is to stay in the Bay Area and work in the software/tech industry.

Worked on Vue.js front-end of a revolutionary hybrid Web2/3 platform & a Go-lang / Node.js / MongoDB / Postgres back-end running atop an elastic AWS-based infrastructure. Promoted to team lead within 3 months, managing a team of ~9 engineers spread across the globe. Also liaised & synched with blockchain, design & business teams, and C-suite (making company-wide bi-weekly presentations on the state of the entire software stack). Also integrally involved in architecture, documentation & hiring. Created a modern (Storyboards, ARC, Autolayout, Push Notifications, Facebook/Twitter/Yelp integration), Universal, AppStore-decoupled, memory & network efficient, "activity enthusiast and venue discovery" app, while maintaining old app; guided company's technology choices & directed platform architecture; managed team of 2 server engineers, 1 UI/UX & 2 web interns; mentored & guided 1 Android engineer. More: Responsible for architecture and infrastructure development. My primary task is to ensure the developed mobile app is responsive when users interact with it, secure with users' information, smart when it comes to resources therefore scalable/light on the backend (for when we reach 1M+ users), flexible and maintainable for future enhancements, and clever when it comes to rapid release cycles to the AppStore. Oh, and bug-free! :-) My secondary task is to direct the application architecture so that it's shared across the various deployment platforms, thus ensuring more harmonized development and promoting more technical "crosstalk". Finally that we use the most appropriate technologies for the venture as it stands today and for the future. Created an advanced, fast, efficient, stable PDF importer for iDraw (sold to Autodesk Inc: Graphic) to rival Apple's Preview and Adobe's Reader (parametrized functions, colorspaces, text decoding and 100% identical font metrics, pixel-perfect text rendering with automated render diff'ing). Enhanced & maintained SVG importer, did QA/testing, helped create RFP for a Disney drawing app, involved in architecture redesign for memory & usability improvements (threaded OpenGL renderer, load/save speedups) on iPad & Mac to make iDraw 2nd only to Pixelmator on OSX & uncontested on iOS.
