Dr. Abdul Quamar is a Software Engineer at Google. Previously, he was a Research Staff Member at IBM Almaden Research Center. He graduated with a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland at College Park. He joined the University of Maryland after serving as an officer in the Communication Corps of the Indian Armed Forces. He is a graduate of the Indian National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla, Pune. He received a B.S. from the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (JNU), New Delhi, and a M.S. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Dr. Quamar has published over 35 articles in top database venues with 650+ citations and has 10+ US and International patents. Dr. Quamar has served on the program committee and chaired tracks of top database conferences over the past several years. He is an advisory board member of the Micro-MBA Program at UC Riverside. He is a recipient of IBM’s Research Division Award in 2019, IBM’s Invention Achievement Awards in 2020 and 2021 and the Dean’s fellowship from the University of Maryland in 2010, 2011. His research work has been successfully integrated with several IBM products such as HealthInsights, Micromedex and Watson Orchestrate. Research Interests: Dr. Quamar’s primary research interests lie at the intersection of data and AI with a focus on AI-driven distributed data management solutions. These include domain oriented semantic data enrichment and integration techniques, Polystore architectures for querying heterogeneous data, natural language interfaces to data including Text-to-SQL and conversational systems, data analytics on large-scale graph-structured data, large-scale distributed database systems.
