Founding Backend Engineer
About this role
Join Unsiloed AI's small, talent-dense team in San Francisco to define the engineering archetype and set the technical ceiling for the company. In this role, you will operate with full ownership and independently drive systems from initial idea through to production, directly shaping a team where technical DNA compounds with every hire.
What youll do
- Architect, build, and scale core backend systems powering document intelligence and VLM-based workflows.
- Own production infrastructure end-to-end, including deployments, monitoring, performance, and reliability.
- Design and operate high-throughput, low-latency services in real production environments.
- Take systems from R&D through production to enterprise scale.
- Build and maintain cloud and on-prem deployments using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm for enterprise customers.
- Establish best practices for CI/CD, observability, debugging, and incident response.
- Partner closely with the founders and research team to turn research prototypes into production-grade, scalable systems.
What Unsiloed AI is looking for
- Experience building and operating scaled production systems.
- Strong backend engineering skills in Python; C++ or Rust is a major plus.
- Experience with distributed systems such as microservices, parallel processing, queues, and caches like Redis.
- Deep familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
- An ownership mindset with the ability to proactively drive work from idea to production.
- Nice to have: Experience serving ML, VLM, or GPU-heavy workloads.
