Senior Software Engineer, Distributed Data Systems

TextQL is an NYC-based startup building the agentic data lakehouse. This Senior Software Engineer, Distributed Data Systems role focuses on building a scalable data platform that turns messy enterprise data into trustworthy answers for customers like Amazon, Ring, Scale AI, Lumeris, and the NBA. You’ll join a team delivering data infrastructure that accelerates data-driven decision making at scale.

What youll do

• Work on a greenfield OLAP lakehouse project to build the data platform for the agentic era.
• Design and implement distributed data system components, with a focus on join optimization and query performance.
• Collaborate across infrastructure, services, and frontend as needed to deliver data platform features.
• Ship reliable, scalable data infrastructure that supports enterprise analytics.

What TextQL is looking for

• 4+ years of experience as a data systems, backend, infrastructure, or platform engineer.
• Experience with big data systems (Apache Spark, Hadoop).
• Experience with distributed systems.
• Comfortable diving into any part of the system—infrastructure, services, or frontend.
• Proficiency in Haskell and/or TypeScript (TextQL's tech stack).
• Experience shipping products from zero to one.
• Experience with databases.
• Strong data focus.
• Experience with OLAP lakehouse/data lakehouse architecture and query optimization.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
