About this role
TextQL is an NYC-based startup building the agentic data lakehouse. This Senior Software Engineer, Distributed Data Systems role focuses on building a scalable data platform that turns messy enterprise data into trustworthy answers for customers like Amazon, Ring, Scale AI, Lumeris, and the NBA. You’ll join a team delivering data infrastructure that accelerates data-driven decision making at scale.
What youll do
- Work on a greenfield OLAP lakehouse project to build the data platform for the agentic era.
- Design and implement distributed data system components, with a focus on join optimization and query performance.
- Collaborate across infrastructure, services, and frontend as needed to deliver data platform features.
- Ship reliable, scalable data infrastructure that supports enterprise analytics.
What TextQL is looking for
- 4+ years of experience as a data systems, backend, infrastructure, or platform engineer.
- Experience with big data systems (Apache Spark, Hadoop).
- Experience with distributed systems.
- Comfortable diving into any part of the system—infrastructure, services, or frontend.
- Proficiency in Haskell and/or TypeScript (TextQL's tech stack).
- Experience shipping products from zero to one.
- Experience with databases.
- Strong data focus.
- Experience with OLAP lakehouse/data lakehouse architecture and query optimization.
- Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
