Full-Stack Engineer

We need a full-stack engineer with 6+ years of experience who has shipped and maintained production applications used by real customers. You should be a pragmatic, T-shaped engineer comfortable working across the entire stack — from database schema design and API development to front-end UI — and have a track record of extending and improving legacy systems rather than just building greenfield apps. You must communicate fluently and think through problems out loud, thrive in ambiguity, and bring genuine curiosity about domains outside your own expertise. Bonus points if you have experience in construction, fintech, proptech, or any domain where you had to deeply learn the business to build the right product.

Responsibilities

Collaboratively define, scope, and architect new platform capabilities on top of a mature Rails monolith that serves mission-critical construction lending workflows

Take ownership of extending and improving legacy systems — adding payments, integrations, and new features onto a 6-year-old codebase in a way that's seamless, secure, and scalable

Work directly with databases: write and optimize SQL, design schema migrations, and ensure API payloads are efficient and well-structured

Develop and maintain both web (React, Hotwire, TypeScript, Tailwind) and potentially mobile-facing (React Native) features, ensuring alignment across platforms

Manage background processing, job queuing (Sidekiq), and system reliability without relying on expensive vendor solutions — think pragmatically about infrastructure

Identify where legacy implementations need improvement and propose practical migration paths that balance engineering quality with business constraints

Help establish engineering culture, conventions, and development practices as the team scales

Communicate proactively and fluently in a fully remote, high-velocity environment — articulate your thinking, ask the right questions, and collaborate through conversation
