Founding Engineer – Backend & Platform

limetax builds Germany’s most modern accounting & tax advisory group.
We acquire profitable tax firms and transform them with a shared, AI-powered
operating platform. The result: radically higher productivity, better service
quality, and a category-defining professional services group built for the next
decade. You will operate at the core of that transformation.
Your mission
Your mission is to design, build, and operate the core backend platform that
powers Limetax’s operating system for tax advisory firms.
You will unify deeply fragmented legacy systems — accounting software (e.g.
DATEV), banks, documents, emails — into a reliable, extensible, production-
grade platform that scales across dozens of firms.
This is foundational work. The systems you design will define:
how data flows through the organization
how workflows execute reliably under real-world constraints
and how AI can be applied safely and effectively on top
How your day-to-day will look
Design, implement, and operate core backend services across accounting,
payroll, reporting, and compliance

Build robust data pipelines to ingest, normalize, and reconcile data from
DATEV, banks, and document sources
Design workflow orchestration for long-running, stateful, failure-prone
processes
Own correctness, observability, and performance of the systems you build
Make pragmatic architectural decisions in a true greenfield environment
Ship to production frequently — your code runs in real tax firms from day
one
Work directly with the CTO on system design and core technical decisions
Is it you we’re looking for?
Have built and operated production backend systems before (language-
agnostic; TypeScript-heavy today)
Are comfortable designing systems around data integrity, workflows, and
reliability
Enjoy going deep on complex, messy, real-world problems
Have a strong bias to action and ownership — you fix things you see
breaking
Care more about robust systems than theoretical elegance
