Founding Engineer – Backend & Platform (m/f/d)
About this role
Limetax is building Germany’s most modern accounting and tax advisory group by unifying legacy systems into a shared, AI-powered operating platform. As a Founding Engineer – Backend & Platform, you’ll design and operate the core backend powering our operating system for tax advisory firms, enabling data flows, reliable workflows, and safe AI applications across dozens of firms. This foundational work defines how data moves, how work gets done, and how we scale.
What youll do
- Design, implement, and operate core backend services across accounting, payroll, reporting, and compliance.
- Build robust data pipelines to ingest, normalize, and reconcile data from DATEV, banks, and document sources.
- Design workflow orchestration for long-running, stateful, failure-prone processes.
- Own correctness, observability, and performance of the systems you build.
- Make pragmatic architectural decisions in a true greenfield environment.
- Ship to production frequently — your code runs in real tax firms from day one.
- Work directly with the CTO on system design and core technical decisions.
What limetax is looking for
- Strong Typescript skills.
- Experience with designing systems around data integrity, workflows, and reliability.
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines to ingest, normalize, and reconcile data from DATEV, banks, and document sources.
- 3+ Years of experience in building backend systems.
- Experience designing and operating workflow orchestration for long-running, stateful, failure-prone processes.
- Have built and operated production backend systems before (language-agnostic; TypeScript-heavy today).
- Strong observability, monitoring, and performance optimization skills for production systems (metrics, tracing, logging).
- Experience integrating DATEV and other accounting software into a production platform.
