The Delivery Lead owns end-to-end execution of client-facing projects, ensuring that scope, timeline, quality, and budget commitments are consistently met. This role sits at the intersection of client relationship management, team coordination, and delivery excellence — acting as the primary accountability owner for project outcomes. The Delivery Lead adapts to the delivery approach most suitable for each engagement, whether iterative, phased, or hybrid, and drives continuous improvement across the projects they lead.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Scope Management

• Define and maintain a clear project plan with milestones, deliverables, and success criteria aligned to client and business objectives.

• Work with stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure the team has clarity on defined requirements, and that there is a shared understanding of what needs to be delivered.

• Ensure the team's workload is well-sequenced and achievable — flagging when priorities conflict with capacity and facilitating resolution with the relevant stakeholders.

• Assess team capacity against committed scope; surface constraints early and negotiate trade-offs with stakeholders before they become delivery failures.

• Own scope change management: evaluate change requests, document impact on timeline and budget, and obtain appropriate approvals before adjusting commitments.

• Maintain and communicate an up-to-date project roadmap that reflects current priorities, upcoming milestones, and known risks.

2. Delivery Execution & Quality

• Drive day-to-day execution across the project team, ensuring work is progressing, priorities are clear, and delivery dates are consistently met.

• Implement and adapt a delivery approach (iterative, phased, or hybrid) suited to the project's nature, client context, and team structure — not defaulting to a single methodology.

• Maintain a real-time view of project health: track progress against plan, identify deviations, and take corrective action without waiting to be asked.

• Manage risks, issues, and dependencies through structured documentation and active mitigation planning; escalate critical blockers immediately with a proposed path forward.

• Champion quality standards throughout the project lifecycle — not just at delivery gates. Ensure that testing, review, and acceptance processes are clearly defined and followed.

• Ensure the team has the resources, information, and organizational support needed to execute. Remove obstacles that impede progress.

3. Team Leadership & Coordination

• Coordinate cross-functional team activities across disciplines (engineering, design, QA, product, etc.) ensuring alignment, clear ownership, and accountability for each workstream.

• Facilitate key project touchpoints — planning sessions, progress check-ins, retrospectives, and stakeholder reviews — adapting format and cadence to what the project and team actually need.

• Hold regular 1:1s with team members to support their development, understand team health, and surface concerns before they escalate.

• Partner with technical and functional leads to review project health, address team capacity issues, and maintain alignment on delivery priorities.

• Foster a team environment of psychological safety, ownership, and continuous improvement — where issues are raised early, not hidden.

4. Client & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary point of contact for the client throughout the project lifecycle, owning communication, expectation management, and relationship health.

• Establish a clear communication rhythm with clients and stakeholders: proactive status updates, risk transparency, and structured feedback loops — not reactive updates after problems surface.

• Ensure clients have a complete and accurate understanding of project scope, constraints, and progress at all times. Avoid surprises.

• Facilitate client-facing reviews and demonstrations; ensure feedback is systematically captured, communicated to the relevant decision-makers, and reflected in the delivery plan once prioritized.

• Identify and map stakeholder expectations early; track alignment over time and address gaps before they become conflicts.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues at the client relationship level — knowing when to escalate and when to resolve directly.

5. Financial & Budget Management

• Maintain visibility into project financials in alignment with the engagement model (time & materials, fixed price, etc), tracking actuals against forecasts and flagging variances early.

• For time-tracked engagements: ensure accurate, timely logging of team hours in the designated systems and validate that reported effort reflects actual project work.

• For fixed-scope engagements: monitor team allocation against budget; identify burn rate risks and take action before the budget is exhausted without a corresponding plan adjustment.

• Collaborate with commercial stakeholders to update financial forecasts when project conditions change — personnel shifts, scope changes, or timeline revisions.

• Understand the financial impact of delivery decisions and surface trade-offs clearly when recommending a course of action.

6. Release & Deployment Coordination

• Plan, coordinate, and communicate releases in collaboration with technical and QA leads, ensuring deployment activities are sequenced, tested, and tracked.

• Maintain a release log with clear documentation of what was shipped, when, and to whom — including release notes distributed to relevant stakeholders.

• Identify deviations from planned release schedules and adjust plans accordingly, communicating impact to clients and internal teams proactively.

• Coordinate go/no-go decisions with appropriate leads, ensuring readiness criteria are defined and met before any release.

7. Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Produce regular project status reports with meaningful signal: not just activity summaries, but clear articulation of health, risks, decisions needed, and trajectory.

• Track and report on delivery metrics relevant to the engagement (velocity, cycle time, defect rates, budget burn, milestone achievement) and use them to drive decisions.

• Lead structured retrospectives and improvement cycles — turning observations into concrete process changes with defined owners and timelines.

• Share learnings across the delivery team to prevent recurrence of common issues and raise the collective capability of the practice.

Qualifications:

Required

• 3–6 years of experience in delivery management, project management, or a similar role in a technology services or product environment.

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-workstream projects from initiation to closure — including scope, schedule, budget, and client communication.

• Fluency in more than one delivery approach (e.g., iterative, phased, Kanban, hybrid, etc) and the judgment to apply the right one per context.

• Strong stakeholder management skills: able to build trust, set expectations, and navigate difficult conversations with clients and internal teams.

• Experience managing project financials — tracking burn, forecasting, and explaining variances to commercial stakeholders.

• Structured communication: able to write clear status reports, facilitate productive meetings, and translate technical realities into business language.

• Proficiency with project management and tracking tooling; willingness to adapt to the tools the team uses.

• Ability to influence and align teams without direct authority — getting people moving in the same direction through clarity, trust, and credibility rather than hierarchy.

• Comfort navigating ambiguity: able to make decisions and keep teams moving even when information is incomplete or the path forward is unclear.

• Conflict resolution and facilitation skills — particularly in high-pressure or high-stakes situations involving clients, competing priorities, or team dynamics.

Nice to Have

• Certification in project or delivery management (PMP, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2, CSM, PSM, or equivalent) — valued as a signal of structured thinking, not a prerequisite.

• Experience in a client-facing professional services or consulting environment.

• Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) fundamentals: enough to have credible conversations with engineering and QA leads.

• Experience managing teams across time zones or in distributed team settings.

• Track record of growing and mentoring junior delivery practitioners.
