Founding Engineer

San Francisco · On-site$150k – $300k + Equity

About this role

Join foam as a Founding Engineer and be a critical member of a small, impactful team building the first telemetry and production system for large language models. You will develop the core intelligence behind the observability stack and root cause analysis engine, enabling AI to seamlessly monitor and control running software starting with automatic error fixes. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape foundational systems from the ground up in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.

What you'll do

  • Set up telemetry pipelines, improve tooling and SDKs, and build systems that reconstruct timelines across logs, traces, and deploys.
  • Build automatic instrumentation that tracks code behavior, preserves async context, and improves visibility into backend operations.
  • Create code-origin mapping that links logs and events back to exact source code.
  • Design secure sandboxes that allow agents to run checks, inspect systems, and validate ideas safely.
  • Build multi-agent reasoning systems that use real telemetry to produce correct root cause analyses.

What foam is looking for

  • Deep experience building complex systems and tackling challenges beyond typical full-stack or infrastructure roles.
  • Proficiency with TypeScript, Node, Express, AWS, and NextJS.
  • Strong understanding of telemetry pipelines, automatic instrumentation, and secure system design.
  • Candidates needing H-1B transfers or holding TN/work permits are welcome.
