Software Engineer, Infrastructure

Berlin · On-site

About this role

This role builds and maintains the infrastructure that connects AI, experiments, and robots to accelerate materials discovery — work that directly affects real-world scientific outcomes. You'll join a team where software is the coordination layer between scientific intent and physical execution, and where reliability, observability, and usability are product priorities.

What you'll do

  • Build backend services in Python (FastAPI, Pydantic) to orchestrate real scientific workflows.
  • Develop data pipelines that convert raw experimental output into usable signals.
  • Create internal dashboards and interfaces (React, TypeScript, Tailwind, Streamlit) used by scientists and engineers.
  • Maintain containerized environments and CI/CD pipelines to keep systems moving.
  • Improve observability so teams understand what’s happening before users complain.
  • Drive reliability improvements based on real failure modes and production experience.
  • Support job orchestration and ML systems, including integration with SLURM-based simulation clusters.
  • Treat infrastructure as a first-class product that directly affects productivity and discovery.

What Dunia Innovations is looking for

  • 2–5 years of software engineering experience with solid Python fundamentals.
  • Comfort working across the stack and willingness to dig into unfamiliar territory.
  • Experience with containerized applications and basic DevOps practices (CI/CD, containers).
  • Clear communication skills and a habit of writing clean, maintainable code.
  • Bonus: exposure to scientific computing, ML infrastructure, or data-intensive systems.
  • English fluency, with additional languages preferred.
