Position Summary

The Project Manager (Ship Repair) serves as the primary point of contact for assigned ship repair projects, overseeing all aspects from planning and execution to delivery and closeout. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage multidisciplinary teams, ensure contract compliance, control costs, and meet schedule commitments, all while maintaining high-quality standards and safety compliance within a dynamic shipyard environment.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage ship repair, overhaul, and maintenance projects from initiation to completion.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, work breakdown structures (WBS), and resource plans.
  • Coordinate with production, engineering, subcontractors, and procurement teams to ensure timely execution
  • Act as the primary liaison with U.S. Navy representatives, government officials, classification societies, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular progress meetings, issue reports, and resolve project-related issues in a timely manner.

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, change order processes, and scope management.
  • Prepare and submit documentation such as progress reports, invoices, and closeout reports.
  • Supervise project teams including planners, foremen, subcontractors, and tradespeople.
  • Ensure team members understand project objectives, safety expectations, and quality standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure timely and efficient project delivery.
  • Promote and enforce strict adherence to shipyard safety and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure repairs and modifications meet technical specifications, regulatory standards, and client expectations.
  • Coordinate testing, inspections, and certifications with QA and naval authorities.

Position Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project management or supervisory roles within the ship repair or maritime industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of specialized experience managing U.S. Navy vessel repairs or shipyard-based projects.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Project financial management and reporting
    • Contract administration and change management
    • Team coordination and leadership
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, military specifications, and shipyard safety standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform complex problem solving, analyze information and develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interact with various job classifications.
  • Ability to work at a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability and tolerance to meet due dates and deadlines.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to government facilities (security clearance may be required).
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and workability assessments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Marine Technology, Business, or related field.

PMP certification or equivalent project management training
