Coraopolis, PA - Full Time
Summary
This is an hourly-rated position at the American Bridge Manufacturing (ABM) facility, shift hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.  ABM is an AISC Certified Fabricator that supports all heavy civil construction projects for the Southland Holdings family of companies, including American Bridge Company.   Senior Welder / Fabricators are responsible for performing a variety of activities related to structural steel fabrication including layout, fitup, welding, grinding, carbon arc, material processing, etc..

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrated welding experience with at least one, but preferably all, of the following processes:  FCAW-G (Flux Core), SMAW (Stick), SAW (Sub Arc).
  • Demonstrated welding experience in welding: carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel
  • Demonstrated experience with air-arc gouging. 
  • Must be able to pass the required welding certification tests for the appropriate processes and positions.
  • Has ability to read and work from a set of project documents (drawings, specifications, and procedures (WPS)).
  • Layout of structural steel weldments from a set of drawings using typical measuring instruments. 
  • Bolting of structural steel connections
  • Use of hand tools, including but not limited to: banding tools, drills, taps, grinders, impact wrenches, hydraulic rams, etc.
  • Has knowledge of common equipment and procedures used in a fabrication shop like:  forklifts, overhead (gantry) cranes, band-saw, Angle Master, hole punch.
  • Use of rigging for handling structural steel. 
  • Conduct pre-shift safety inspection of work area, tools and equipment.

  • Has 5-10 years of experience in steel fabrication. 
  • Is detail oriented and values quality workmanship. 
  • Is able to think critically about a task and to independently work at completing it within the given parameters. 
  • Is safety-oriented and exhibits safe work habits.

  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day, Monday through Friday. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Essential Duties.
  • Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity to hand-carry steel and other fabrication materials, power tools, and hand tools.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed indoors.
  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a steel fabrication shop.
  • Employees regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Employees must maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the shop, including the activities of other employees, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found in a fab shop such as cutting oil, grease, steel shavings / filings, oxy-acetylene, propane, gasoline, diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid, paint.
