Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP)
The Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP) is in the Technical and Vocational Training industry. Kia America, Inc. established this program to help skilled and experienced military veterans begin careers as Kia Certified Service Technicians. There are currently 100 open positions available. The available positions are for Military Veteran Automotive Technicians and Military Veteran Mechanics. The job titles include: * Military Veteran Automotive Technician - Lou Fusz Kia Moline * Military Veteran Automotive Technician - LaFontaine Kia of Dearborn * Military Veteran Mechanic - Mike Miller Kia * Military Veteran Automotive Technician - Midwest Kia * Military Veteran Mechanic - Crain Kia of Bentonville * Military Veteran Automotive Technician - Willowbrook Kia * Military Veteran Automotive Technician - Napleton's Mid Rivers Kia * Military Veteran Mechanic - Warner Kia * Automotive Technician / Hello Kia of Valencia * Military Veteran Mechanic - Bill Walsh Kia These roles involve diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing Kia vehicles, including engine, transmission, steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and electrical components. Technicians will complete repair orders and warranty requests, test drive vehicles, and utilize Kia diagnostic strategies, special equipment, and tools. They will also perform services, diagnostics, and repairs while communicating with the shop foreman and service advisor to promote an optimal customer experience. The roles require proficiency in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing various vehicle systems. Specific technical skills include experience with engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and electrical components. Other relevant skills include customer service, communication, technical skills, and mechanical skills. Technicians will utilize Kia diagnostic strategies, special equipment, and tools. All positions are on-site at independently owned and operated Kia Retailers. **1. What is the Kia VTAP Apprenticeship Program?** The Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP) is a program designed specifically for Veterans and facilitated by Veterans. **2. What are the core responsibilities of a Military Veteran Automotive Technician or Mechanic?** Technicians diagnose, maintain, and repair Kia vehicles, including engine, transmission, steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and electrical components. They complete repair orders, test drive vehicles, and use diagnostic tools. **3. What qualifications are needed to apply for these positions?** Qualifications include an Honorable Discharge, a valid driver's license from any state with a clean driving record, and experience in a technical/mechanical field. Applicants must also be willing to complete and pass drug screening and background checks. **4. What are the benefits of the Kia VTAP Apprenticeship?** The apprenticeship offers full-time employment with a participating Kia Retailer, participation in a one-year competency-based GI Bill approved apprenticeship leading to Kia Service Technician certification, and access to all tools, equipment, vehicles, and training. **5. Is the GI Bill applicable to the apprenticeship?** Eligible Veterans may apply for and receive a substantial GI Bill© Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) during their apprenticeship.
