The American School for the Deaf (ASD), founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc, is the oldest school for the deaf. ASD is committed to serving deaf and hard of hearing infants, youth, and their families in development of intellect and the enhancement of quality of life utilizing specially designed instruction. The American School for the Deaf is currently hiring for three on-site positions: * **Summer Camp Nurse - Isola Bella 2026:** This position, located at Camp Isola Bella in Salisbury, CT, requires the provision of medical/nursing care to campers and staff. The closing date is until filled. Employment dates are approximately June 20, 2026 to July 25, 2026. Applicants must be 21 or older, and must hold current CPR and First Aid certifications, with RN licensure required with a minimum of three (3) years of experience; BSN or MSN accepted. Working knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is strongly preferred, or willingness to learn. * **Staff ASL Interpreter (Medical):** Two openings are available for this position. The role involves providing communication access for the Deaf Community using formative linguistic, cultural, and life experiences, also providing close-vision and/or tactile interpreting services to Deaf Blind community members. Must hold Interpreter Certification: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID): CI, CT, CSC, NIC Certified, or National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Level V. Must maintain registration with the State of Connecticut Interpreter Registry. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, and willingness to work flexible hours and travel to multiple locations is required. Mentorship experience and training are a plus. This is a 12-month position with benefits. * **Summer Camp Assistant Waterfront Director - Isola Bella 2026:** This seasonal role supports the Waterfront Director in overseeing all waterfront activities, ensuring a safe and educational environment. The Assistant Waterfront Director assists with the daily management of all waterfront activities and reports directly to the Waterfront Director and Camp Director. The employment dates are approximately June 20, 2026 to July 25, 2026, and is non-benefit eligible. Applicants must be 21 or older and must have current WATERFRONT lifeguard certification, boating license, small craft safety certification and experience pertaining to operating a waterfront facility. Proficiency in American Sign Language is strongly preferred.
