Senior/Staff Backend Engineer
About this role
About Beakon
Beakon is an AI-first critical event management company on a mission to outpace chaos — safeguarding businesses from crime, political turmoil, and severe weather. Our agentic AI platform is the only one in the industry that monitors police and fire 911 radio at scale, decoding dispatch codes and jargon and threading them together with OSINT from major social networks into verified, actionable threat alerts — in seconds, not minutes.
Founded in 2023 by public-safety technology veterans of Nixle and Citizen, and backed by an oversubscribed seed round from investors including First Round Capital and Chemistry, we've crossed $1M ARR with strong traction and customer retention — our customers include Fortune 50 retailers, leading autonomous-vehicle companies, and major utilities. Our edge so far has been data latency: verified threat intelligence faster than anyone else. As we build out platform parity and next-generation features not yet seen in the industry, we'll have plenty of slingshots to take on the incumbent goliaths.
The role
We run a lean core team of three engineers, with a small handful of supporting engineers overseas — and we're adding 1–2 senior/staff backend engineers to the core team. You'll own core platform functionality end-to-end and innovate on features the industry hasn't seen yet.
What we're looking for
- Senior-to-staff level backend engineering experience
- 0→1 ownership experience (required) — whether founding a product or owning a very large project end-to-end
- Demonstrated flexibility to dive into different specialties of engineering
Strong nice-to-haves
- Experience building user-configured workflow systems
- Experience building AI pipelines
- Early-stage startup experience
Compensation & logistics
- Fully remote
- $180k–$205k salary
