Founding Engineer

About this role
Ambra is hiring a Founding Engineer to join a small, fast-moving team building software that modernizes EMS billing and operations; this role combines hands-on engineering with frequent customer conversations to deliver product and operational impact that helps paramedics get paid and protects 911 services.
What youll do
- Own end-to-end development: architecture, code, deployment, and on-call responsibility.
- Build customer-facing features informed by conversations with billers, fire chiefs, and ops leaders.
- Ship automation that reduces manual work and saves agencies millions.
- Make product and design tradeoffs with strong UX sensibility.
- Iterate quickly: deploy, learn from customers, and improve continuously.
- Work in-person in San Francisco 2–3 days per week and collaborate closely with the founding team.
What Ambra is looking for
- 1–3 years building full‑stack products end-to-end.
- Strong CS fundamentals, high bar for quality, attention to detail, and a fast learner with clear communication.
- Experience with React and product/design sensibilities.
- Backend and infra experience with Go, PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with APIs, LLMs, and RAG architectures.
- Background in EMS, 911, healthcare, or insurance billing is highly relevant.
- Double points for NREMT certification.
- Prior experience as a founder or founding engineer is a plus.
- Comfortable with an in-person cadence (SF 2–3 days/week).
- Ambra welcomes OPT and STEM OPT candidates and will work with you on next steps.
